1. Knowledge and understand of the following technical systems:
a)Server and Network operating systems including GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, Client and Server, IBM AIX, Macintosh OS X Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory, DNS, and other systems maintained by the IT department.
b)Network Hardware/Software including: VMware, Avaya switches, Cisco switches, Nortel routers, Nortel Passport 8600 series routing switches and Nortel Baystack switches.
c)NEC PBXs, Amcom 911.2. Excellent written and verbal skills.

Chief information Officer
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Information Systems, the Network Administrator oversees telecommunications systems including voice, data and video communication. He/she manages the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of network systems, and will manage LAN and WAN performance as well as LAN and WAN security. Installs, maintains, monitors and troubleshoots all operations of the network structure. Evaluates vendor products, such as server hardware, server software and network hardware and recommends purchases to the Supervisor of Information Systems. Recommends and implements policies and standards that will ensure the reliability and security of the network as well as document the current network. Diagnoses and repairs problems as they arise. Attends meetings and provides feedback, support and coordination for projects involving IT related services.
1. Oversees the telecommunications systems including voice, data, and video communication.
2. Evaluates and recommends vendor products.
3. Supports technical staff in day-to-day functions.
4 Recommends and implements policies and standards.
5. Plans, design, installs and maintains network systems.
6. Diagnoses and repairs problems as they arise, including problems arising after regular business hours.
7. Assumes such other functions as may be determined or assigned by the Supervisor.
Twelve months; salaried position. Represented by Local 818.
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on non-certified staff, per Local 818.
