Qualifications

  • US citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a Secret clearance.
  • DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level 2 or 3 certification required.
  • 7+ years of directly related network experience; or 3+ years with Bachelor's.
  • Experience in defense sector environments and DISA STIGs.
  • VMware/SDDC networking and security administration experience.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain VMware NSX and SDDC configurations.
  • Manage routers, switches, and firewalls across Cisco and Dell devices.
  • Create VMware distributed switches and port groups.
  • Patch and upgrade all network equipment and virtual components.
  • Maintain firewall rules and access control for security.
  • Troubleshoot network issues across OSI layers 1-3; use Wireshark for analysis.
  • Monitor capacity and scalability; provide performance insights.
  • Lead a team of network admins; coordinate with PMO/government stakeholders.
  • Follow change and configuration management processes.

Job description

Position Summary

Odyssey offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled Network Administrator with specialized experience in VMware and Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) environments. This pivotal role supports the Strategic Warning and Space Surveillance Directorate CIO office (SSC/SZQY) at Peterson SFB, ensuring the seamless operation of network infrastructures crucial to missile warning systems. We are looking for a dedicated professional to oversee the integrity, reliability, and security of our onpremises network infrastructure in a high-stakes defense setting.

Responsibilities
  • Implement, maintain, and oversee virtualized network systems, focusing on VMware NSX and SDDC manager configurations.
  • Manage advanced network devices, including routers, multilayer switches, and firewalls across various vendors such as Cisco and Dell.
  • Create and manage VMware distributed switches and port groups, ensuring optimized virtual network settings.
  • Execute a robust patching and upgrade schedule for all network equipment and virtual infrastructure components.
  • Uphold network security through effective firewall rule management and access control.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot network issues, providing detailed insights across OSI layers 1 through 3.
  • Utilize packet capturing tools like Wireshark for in-depth network analysis.
  • Monitor network performance, proactively addressing capacity and scalability.
  • Address network concerns, escalating complex issues to the technical program manager as needed.
  • Foster clear communication within the team and with external stakeholders.
  • Guide a team of network administrators to meet program objectives.
  • Engage in formal change and configuration management processes to ensure system stability and compliance.
Qualifications
  • Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
  • Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Secret clearance
  • Certification: Must meet DoD 8570/DoD 8140 IAT Level 2 or 3 requirements with an approved baseline certification.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Years of Experience: 7 or more years of directly related experience; OR, Bachelor's degree in a related field with 3 or more years of directly related experience
  • Experience in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting network infrastructure components, including switches, routers, and firewalls, within defense sector environments.
  • Proven skills in developing network documentation, with insights into architectural and operational elements from Layer 1 through Layer 3.
  • Experience with the practical application of security standards, including DISA STIGs, in a defense-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform regular system and network maintenance activities, ensuring operational readiness and system robustness.
  • Proficiency in network administration within VMware/SDDC environments, including managing virtualized networks and security systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clearance: Top Secret
  • Certification: VMware VCP-NV and/or Cisco CCNA certifications are highly desirable.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Prior leadership experience in managing a team of network administrators is a significant advantage.
  • Strong practical knowledge of VMware distributed switches, VMware NSX, and VXLAN/GENEVE overlays.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.

  • Location: Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs CO - Building 2025
  • Hybrid: Hybrid (90% in office with the occasional opportunity for remote work at the discretion of the government leadership with a potential to expand remote opportunities after the system in use)
  • Travel: Travel up to 10% travel may be required
