Job summary

Shermco Industries is seeking a NETA Field Service Technician, Senior to join our electrical power systems team in Cedar Park, TX. This role travels to industrial and commercial sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and data-collect on high voltage equipment (480 V to 600 kV) with emphasis on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical training in Electrical Power & Controls, or an EE degree
• NETA Certification (III or IV) or Electrician license preferred
• 5+ years of relevant switchgear testing & troubleshooting experience
• Proficient PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel; PowerDB a plus
• Ability to work safely and follow electrical safety procedures; willingness to travel locally/regionally and periodically overnight
• OSHA 30/ MSHA/ NFPA 70-E / CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training preferred and trainable by Shermco
• Must read, write and speak English fluently; valid driver's license; able to pass background and drug tests
• Willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally
• Flexible hours, overtime, weekends, holidays when required

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot and collect data on HV systems
• Perform power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, insulation resistance, etc.) and instrument transformer tests
• Test low, medium and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
• Calibrate relays (electro-mechanical and solid-state) and perform power metering
• Handle on-call duties and respond to emergencies quickly

Responsibilities

Field Service Test Technicians travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (480 Volt to 600 kV) electrical systems.

• Able to travel to customer job sites across the state and bordering states.
• Instrument transformer tests.
• Power transformer testing - Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
• Preferred if proficient in testing both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays
• Cable testing - Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot.
• Automatic transfer switch troubleshooting.
• Low, Medium and High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.
• Moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
• Rotate emergency on-call duty and if called respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

• Prefer an Associate's degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or a EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
• NETA Certification (III or IV) or similar desired or Electrician license preferred
• Must have at least 5 or more years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting
• Must have good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; experience with PowerDB a plus
• Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures
• Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training; training on each can be provided by Shermco
• Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel

Other Requirements

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check

• Must be able to crawl, climb, stand and lift up to 100 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam
• Must have a valid driver's license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record
• Must be available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel
• U.S. passport & TWIC card a plus
• Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays and nights.

Pay Range

USD $50.00 - USD $60.00 /Hr.
