Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a compliance professional to support audit readiness and alignment with NERC Standards across business units. You will partner with BU teams, act as a trusted advisor, and drive proactive compliance efforts to ensure readiness before standards take effect.

The role requires five years in an electric utility or regulated setting, with strong regulatory and risk-management skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree as specified; or Associate's with two years of relevant experience.
  • Five years' experience in electric utility or similarly regulated industry.
  • Developing expertise on NERC Standards; ability to manage risk and multiple business units.

Responsibilities

  • Support audit readiness by aligning with NERC Standards.
  • Identify incident root cause, risk, and regulator-ready language.
  • Develop and monitor mitigation activities with SMEs and track milestones.
  • Assist with implementation plans for standards and evidence collection.
  • Prepare RFIs responses and present findings to regulators.

Job description

Job Summary

Support Business Unit (BU) in achieving and maintaining audit readiness by ensuring alignment with applicable NERC Standards. Drive consistent, effective and proactive compliance efforts by partnering with BU compliance teams and tailoring support based on each BU's compliance maturity. Perform audit readiness activities directly when needed and serve as a trusted advisor through deep expertise in NERC Standards. Act as the single point of contact for ENRA compliance services on an assigned standard basis. Execute established compliance processes with minimal supervision and maintain accurate, up to date process documentation.

What You'll Do:
  • Potential Compliance Incident Investigation:
    • Identify root cause and establish facts of incident
    • Identify impact and risk
    • Draft language for regulator review
  • Mitigation Plan Support:
    • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop effective mitigation activities
    • Draft language for regulator review
    • Develop milestones, including preventive efforts
    • Track progress of approved plan and review evidence of completion
  • Standard Implementation:
    • Work with impacted BUs to create and execute an implementation plan for new and revised standards to ensure readiness prior to the Standard's effective date
  • RSAW Development and Review:
    • Support business unit compliance teams to review and/or develop narrative of compliance
  • Gap Analysis and Controls:
    • Assess and provide feedback to compliance SMEs on the ability of BU processes to fulfill compliance requirements
    • Identify failure points relating to compliance requirements
    • Identify process improvements and/or controls as needed to reduce the risk of failure points
    • Develop, deploy and maintain level two controls, as needed
  • Evidence Pull Sheet Support:
    • Support BU compliance experts to define evidence of compliance
    • Support instructions to pull and review evidence on demand
  • Request for Information (RFI) responses:
    • Collect SME responses to regulator RFIs
  • Execute other tasks and projects, as assigned, which may include creating presentations, delivering training and supporting BUs during audit engagements.
What We're Looking For:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, communications, computer science, business, or related field of study; or Associate's degree in one of the aforementioned fields of study and two (2) years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience: In addition to any experience required above, five (5) years of experience in electric utility or similarly regulated industry.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Developing expertise on NERC Standards
    • Ability to manage risk and/or NERC Standards owned by more than one business unit
    • Understand Regional Entity positions and risk view of NERC Standards
    • Proven ability to gain agreement with stakeholders for risk mitigation and process improvement opportunities

Compensation Data

Compensation Grade: Compensation Range: $116,255.00 - $151,132.50

The Physical Demand Level for this job is:

S - Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
