Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health in College Station, TX is seeking a Neonatal NP Intensivist to provide direct patient care in a Level III NICU with a 24-hour shift cycle and a supported mentorship program led by experienced Neonatology staff.

You will collaborate with Neonatologists and NPs, manage about 16 patients per shift, perform ventilator management, and participate in iNO and ECMO activities under supervision, with strong nursing and social work support.

Qualifications

• RN licensure in Texas or RN with compact privilege; APRN certification in Texas.
• Nurse Practitioner credentials required; ACLS/BLS within 30 days of hire.
• Strong communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients with comprehensive exams and histories.
• Order, collect and interpret tests to guide care.
• Prescribe therapies and perform procedures per protocol.
• Develop and implement patient treatment plans; coordinate with physicians.
• Counsel patients and families on care plans and medications.

Position Highlights

• Level III NICU providing advanced neonatal critical care in an inpatient setting.
• 24-hour shift schedule offering a condensed work schedule and excellent work-life balance.
• Work alongside experienced Neonatologists and Neonatal NPs in a collaborative, team-based environment.
• Manage approximately 16 patients per shift with support from RNs, Social Workers, and additional APPs.
• Broad scope of practice including:
• High-risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitation
• Hospital admissions and inpatient rounding
• Critical care procedures (intubations, lumbar punctures, arterial/umbilical line placement, chest tubes, bladder taps)
• Ventilator management
• Cooling therapies (body/head cooling)
• iNO therapy
• New graduates are encouraged to apply with a structured 12–18 month mentorship and onboarding program led by Dr. Amy Brunt and the Neonatology team.
• Individual patient management with your own in-basket responsibilities.
• No travel or satellite clinic responsibilities—practice exclusively at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – College Station.
• Strong interdisciplinary support including dedicated nursing and social work teams.

Job Summary

The NP Intensivist Medicine is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as independent providers by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. Intensivist Medicine providers work in critical care settings. They manage patients by rounding, performing procedures, and handling hospital admissions and discharges.

Essential Functions Of The Role

• Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
• Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
• Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or related treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
• Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to health care and the effectiveness of care.
• Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
• Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
• Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training.
• Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice (and knowledge of the provider) as delegated by supervising Physician.
• May conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on-call support.
