Job summary

City of Gainesville is seeking a Community Builder to lead the Neighborhood Planning program within GG_Housing and Community Development. This role combines supervision, planning analysis, and community engagement to improve neighborhoods and preserve Gainesville’s character.

You will work with neighborhood groups, advisory bodies, and the City Commission, presenting findings, guiding projects, and ensuring contracts and grants are managed effectively.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in urban planning or related field.
• Four years of experience in urban planning, neighborhood revitalization, or any equivalent combination of education and knowledge related to neighborhood redevelopment and preservation.
• Certifications or licenses: Licenses - None; Certifications - None.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, and oversees the Neighborhood and Historic Preservation Planning program.
• Supervises and conducts background research, surveys, and interviews on neighborhood issues, land use, and zoning, and prepares related reports.
• Supervises, plans, and coordinates the work of subordinates.
• Draft Neighborhood Action Plans in coordination with neighborhood groups.
• Presents findings and recommendations to neighborhood groups, advisory boards, and the City Commission.
• Reviews and interprets land development code and related regulations.
• Facilitates neighborhood group meetings and provides team leadership in an urban planning environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to prepare succinct, coherent, and technically accurate reports.
