Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, seeks a certified NDT Examiner to lead training, certification, and supervision of nondestructive testing personnel on the 1st shift at the Newport News facility.

You will develop training programs, approve procedures, interpret specifications, and support quality and manufacturing in inspections for naval components.

Qualifications

• Certified NDT Examiner (ASNT Level III or NAVSEA) with 2 years in inspection or quality.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings.
• Knowledge of shipyard systems (DDMS, SAP, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Train, examine and certify NDT personnel to ensure competence per requirements.
• Develop and administer NDT training and certification programs; counsel and decertify as needed.
• Monitor NDT operations and prepare reports on trends and issues affecting manufacturing and inspection.

The Role

Trains, examines and certifies nondestructive test (NDT) personnel, ensuring that NDT personnel are competent and qualified to perform the applicable tests in conformance with Company and contractual requirements. Provides technical support to resolve technical issues, as well as the development, interpretation, adaptation, qualification and implementation of specifications, procedures, processes, etc. Approves NDT procedures and workmanship standards, and ensures the adequacy of the program. Develops and administers NDT personnel training and certification programs. Provides counseling/corrective guidance regarding examination performance, and decertifies or retrains/tests personnel as appropriate. Conducts site monitoring/surveillance of NDT personnel and operations; evaluation of program elements; and product re-inspection activities. Interprets applicable specifications, procedures, and other technical requirements. Compiles and prepares technical and interpretive reports relating to NDT detected workmanship trends; analysis of reject rates; the resolution of problems; and the impact of methodology changes on manufacturing and inspection operations.

Must Have

Certified Nondestructive Test Examiner certification (ASNT Level III or NAVSEA 250-1500-1 Test Examiner) and 2 years of relevant experience in inspection, test or quality role.
