Job summary

West Star Aviation Inc. is seeking an NDT Technician to perform inspection and testing in an on-site East Alton, IL hangar. You will disassemble, clean, prepare and test parts, maintaining NAS 410 certifications and ensuring proper documentation.

The role requires clear communication in English and adherence to FAA guidelines. Preferred candidates hold an Airframe and Powerplant license or equivalent, with experience meeting NAS 410 requirements.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform NDT tasks including disassembly, cleaning, preparation and testing.
• Maintain NDT certifications (Level I/II/III per NAS 410).
• Inspect and repair shop facilities, equipment and tooling.
• Navigate electronic training and maintenance databases.
• Communicate clearly in English; follow supervisor instructions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

You Will Be ESSENTIAL To Many FUNCTIONS Including

• Perform, under supervision, the required tasks associated with NDT. This will include parts disassembly, cleaning, preparation, testing and post cleaning.
• Achieve and maintain certifications of NDT level I, NDT Level 2, or level 3 per NAS 410 and West Star Aviation’s written practice. Will be required to re-certify on a periodic basis in order to maintain job status.
• Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling.
• Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases.
• Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
• Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Your Education

What you’ll need to bring with you:

• A High school diploma or equivalent.
• Airframe and Powerplant License preferred.
• A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.
• At least the minimum amount of experience required by NAS 410. All experience must be properly documented.

Other Particulars

Physical Requirements

• Lifts 50 lbs.
• Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
• Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
• Will be required to pass an eye test for vision and color blindness.
• Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas.
• Standing for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements

• Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
• Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
• Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision

• Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Director of Maintenance.
• May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a NDT lab or hangar environment which can be subject to extreme temperature variations.
• Varied positions in and around the aircraft.
• Work around X-radiation will be required.

Equipment Used

• Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
• NDT equipment including ultraviolet lights, high amperage magnetic particle inspection machines, x-ray machines, x-ray film processor, eddy current tester, ultrasonic flaw detector and other equipment as required.

Compensation & Benefit Information

The following information is disclosed according to state specific requirements. If the position applied to is not in a state with these requirements, the following information may not apply. The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $24-$30. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if the employee is assigned to an alternate shift. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package. Other forms of compensation include a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
