Job summary

Valence Surface Technologies in West Springfield, MA seeks an NDT penetrant inspector to set up and standardize penetrant processes, evaluate defect standards, and accept or reject results. You will measure pressure and water gauges and ensure penetrant and developer usage meets aerospace specifications.

No experience required; training provided. Manufacturing experience is a plus; ITAR compliance applies.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Type I, Method A, form d penetrant systems.
• Familiar with aerospace prime specifications and processes.
• Willing to train and learn ITAR requirements.
• No experience required; manufacturing experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set up and standardize penetrant processes and inspect known defect standards.
• Accept/reject results based on aerospace specifications.
• Take measurements of pressure and water gauges and evaluate penetrant and developer.
• Evaluate in-use penetrant and developer to ensure compliance.
• Determine acceptability of aerospace parts per OEM specs.

Job description

• Have the skills and knowledge to set up and standardize penetrant black lights, process a known defect standard and accept/reject the results, take measurements of pressure and water gauges, evaluate the in-use penetrant, evaluate the in-use developer.
• Have the skills and knowledge to apply penetrant to aerospace parts in a manner that is acceptable to aerospace specifications, understand required dwell times for penetrant, wash penetrant off parts in accordance with aerospace prime specifications and control the materials in accordance with specifications.
• Have the skills and knowledge to control developer dwell times as well as understand the specifics of the evaluation process required by all aerospace OEM specifications.
• Have the skills and knowledge to determine if an aerospace part is acceptable or rejectable when evaluating in accordance with an aerospace OEM specifications.
• Be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of Penetrant inspection using a Type I, Method A, form d system.
• Have a basic knowledge of the other departments within an aerospace processing facility, i.e. pre-penetrant etching and cleaning, post cleaning, pre-treatment, masking, shot peen, paint.

• COMPENSATION RANGE: $20.00 to $26.00

This position requires access to knowledge and technical data regulated by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Valence Surface Technologies is required to verify that applicants meet ITAR requirements prior to employment for this role.

Experience

Preferred

• Currently or recently certified in NDT FPI disciplines.
• Previous participation in departmental audits.
• Excellent people skills, hands on worker.
• Previous plating experience a plus
• Experience in a NADCAP & ISO 9000 environment desired
• Chemical processing (Etching, Nital Etch) experience a plus
