Job Description

Education
High School Diploma / GED.
Requirements
Current PTSB Coaching Certificate and current CPR / First Aid card.
Expectations and Responsibilities
Able to work afternoons, evenings, nights & weekends (not including Sunday) to provide the necessary practice time and game schedule associated with the sport and season length. Coaches are expected to schedule practice every weekday (M - F) except for holidays, game days, and never on Sundays. All Natrona County School District (NCSD) student-sponsored activities and sports must be completed by 6 pm at the middle schools and 6:30 pm at the high schools on Wednesdays as per Board Policy 1200 Parent and Community Night.
- Coordinate and schedule contests, practice schedules, and parent meetings.
- Manage complaints and grievances process.
- Implement code of conduct requirements and enforce violations consistently.
- Enforce participant eligibility requirements and administer violations consistently.
- Purchase equipment and uniforms.
- Handle bus transportation procedures.
- Ensure coach active supervision during activity trips.
- Maintain emergency action plan and safety check‑list.
- Administer fundraising requirements.
- Adhere to copyright law.
- Resolve coach conduct issues.
- Facilitate effective system of assigning locks and lockers.
- Distribute and collect equipment and uniforms.
- Begin practice on earliest date allowed by the Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) and/or NCSD.
- Communicate active supervision expectations during all practice and competition sessions.
- Understand undue influence and the complaint process.
- Develop horizontal and vertical alignment strategy for each sport.
- Enforce participant and coach attendance policy.
- Review and approve the team handbook and communication documents annually.
- Approve annual evaluation process for head coaches, assistant coaches, and aides.
- Complete district-required compliance training annually.
Athletic Participant Requirements
- Complete a current physical examination before starting practice.
- Receive and understand the Natrona County School District’s Code of Conduct and Academic Eligibility rules and regulations for activities and sports.
- Purchase insurance coverage before the first practice session.
- Review and complete the safety video and WHSAA concussion risk information handout, consent to participate, consent for emergency medical treatment, and emergency contact information.
Equipment and Uniform Management
- Inspect, clean, and/or repair before issuing to participants.
- Accurately inventory, distribute, repair, clean, maintain, and secure.
- Provide proper instruction for correct usage by participants.
Facility and Safety Oversight
- Maintain locker and equipment rooms securely and orderly.
- Ensure district-required adult supervision for all student‑athletes in all settings.
- Report injuries immediately via the NCSD Injury Reporting Form to parents, athletic trainer, nurse, and AD or Athletics/Activities Designee and/or Administrator.
- Confirm volunteers, chaperones, aides, and coaches know their duties and responsibilities.
- Reflect the goals and values of the athletic program in accordance with school and district educational program.
- Create and distribute awards and award letters fairly, following all award/s requirements.
Overnight Lodging
- Only the activity/sport participant may stay in the assigned room unless an emergency or misconduct occurs.
- If a co‑educational trip is undertaken, each gender must be housed in separate rooms.
- Under no circumstances may an individual of the opposite gender visit the other gender’s room.
Participant Communication
- Notify participants of competition and practice schedules.
- Inform about dates and times for receiving equipment.
- Communicate academic & conduct eligibility information.
- Schedule pre‑season parent meeting.
- Distribute team handbook and rules.
Attendance and Reporting
- Attend annual coaches meetings scheduled by the AD or Athletics/Activities Designee and/or Administrator.
- Be responsible to the head coach, AD Principal, and/or the Athletics/Activities Designee and/or Administrator for coaching duties, reporting rule violations, planning transportation, early dismissal of students, maintaining records and statistics, and providing rosters.
Travel and Safety Documents
- Provide travel roster, emergency phone numbers, trip itinerary, adult sponsor forms, and field trip forms to head coach, AD/ Athletics/Activities Designee and/or Administrator, and transportation department bus scheduler.
- Complete the Sports Safety Checklist at the beginning of each season.
- Know and enforce transportation rules and regulations for bus requests and supervision during activity trips.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Organize, promote, and attend seminars, meetings, and other professional development opportunities.
- Organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment based on district policies, regulations, SOPs, and guidelines.
- Integrate resources, policies, and information such as horizontal & vertical alignment of athletics, undue influence, activity eligibility, code of conduct, and active supervision.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the public.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and NCSD staff.
- Represent NCSD #1 in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
- Respond effectively to emergencies.
Safety
- Lead in the creation of a culture of safety and environmental protection by performing work safely per district, department, and school safety procedures.
- Annually review the compliance safety film with all participants in all sports before practice, competitions, games, events, and matches.
- Operate equipment safely and report unsafe conditions to the Athletic Director/ Athletics/Activities Designee and/or Administrator.
- Inspect and ensure the safety of all facilities utilized and equipment issued.
- Teach and follow the concussion protocol for participants.
- Teach and implement emergency action plans for violent intrusions, lighting, extreme temperatures, and injuries.
- Establish, enforce, monitor, and teach district, local, and state health safety requirements related to COVID‑19 and related protocols.
