Job summary

Topsarge Business Solutions is seeking a Craft Master Instructor/Writer to conduct classroom and on-board training on maritime systems, navigation, and vessel operations. You will lead classroom and hands-on sessions, direct LCU movement in practice amphibious scenarios, and contribute to lesson planning and simulator support.

The role requires extensive sea-service credentials, leadership, and the ability to train crews of 10+ students.

Qualifications

  • 12 years of deck operations/boatswain experience in US Navy/Coast Guard/Merchant Marine Service.
  • Documented sea service record or marine licenses.
  • Qualified as an LCU-1600 Craft Master.
  • USCG Marine Radar Observer and BRM license.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Ability to teach all maritime systems and navigation basics.
  • Experience with maritime training simulators.
  • Ability to train LCU crews of 10+ students.
  • Physically able to embark/board vessels and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and update lesson plans and training materials; plan instruction.

Job description

Craft Master Instructor/Writer

Duties include primary and assistant instructor tasks. Conduct training in classrooms and shops and on board vessels and dockside for topics such as maritime systems, Rules of the Road, Marine Radar and vessel operations. Instructors/writers direct movement of Landing Craft Utility (LCU) in practice amphibious assault type scenarios. Direct docking and undocking in landing types (LHA, LHD, LPD, and LSD), beaching and retracting, loading stowage, and equipment/supplies in various ship and shore movement scenarios. Direct movement of craft employing Rules of the Road, electronic and visual navigation, and radio and visual communications procedures. Edit, , recommend changes to lesson plans, plan instruction including training schedules, TCFE 719s for pier space, graduation services, and simulator support. Provide remedial assistance and prepare classroom and training materials for presentation. Develop maritime technical training lesson plans relating to army watercraft engine operations. Maintain/update briefings, papers, lesson plans, and written actions addressing issues concerning POIs, FMs (Field Manuals), TMs (Technical Manuals) and associated pamphlets.

Requirements
  • 12 years experience in generic deck operations/boatswains' mate) in the US Navy, US Coast Guard, or Merchant Maritime Service
  • Documented practical experience (sea service record, marine license, military service records)
  • Qualified as an LCU-1600 Craft Master
  • Qualified with a USCG Approved Marine Radar Observer and Bridge Resource Management License
  • Leadership experience
  • Ability to instruct all aspects of maritime systems, Basic Navigation, Rules of the Road, Marine Radar, basic damage control, cargo stability, firefighting, Electronic Chart Precise Integrated Navigation System (ECPINS) and vessel operation
  • Instructor in a military service environment within the past five years
  • Experience with maritime training simulators
  • Ability to handle Landing Craft Utility (LCU) in practice amphibious assault type scenarios, docking and undocking landing types (LHA, LHD, LPD, and LSD), beaching and retracting, loading stowage of equipment/supplies in various ship and shore movement scenarios, electronic and visual navigation, and radio and visual communications procedures
  • Ability to train LCU crews of 10 or more students in all phases of craft operations and maintenance
  • Physically able to embark/debark vessels, ascend/descend ladder ways, instruct/assist in damage control and firefighting simulators, and must be able to lift to 60 lbs.
  • Proficient with MS Office computer programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, e-mail)
  • High school diploma or a GED
  • Possess effective communication skills
