Overview

Leidos Defense Systems Sector is hiring a Navigation Engineer in Huntsville, AL to support rapid development of navigation for air, land, and sea launched flight systems. The position supports programs such as AGM-190, GBU 69, Hypersonic, and DARPA Gremlins.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and analyze navigation algorithms and implement them in 6‑DOF simulations and operational flight software.
  • Conduct trade studies for design decisions and develop techniques to assess, validate, and verify performance.
  • Support flight tests with pre‑flight predictions and post‑flight analyses.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics with 2‑4 years of experience, or Master’s degree with research in state estimation algorithms, navigation techniques, and basic aerodynamic principles.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Strong math skills in linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate transformation.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and C/C++ programming.
  • Excellent technical communication skills and ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to Huntsville, AL.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Department of Defense digital engineering, flight vehicles, guided munitions, or unmanned aerial systems.
  • Experience in terrestrial navigation, SAASM, M‑Code, and GPS‑denied operations.
  • Master’s or doctorate in engineering or physics.
  • Current active Secret or higher clearance.
Location & Compensation

Huntsville, AL. Pay range: $69,550.00 – $125,725.00.
