Job Details:

Purpose

Develop mechanical components for high frequency sonar systems in the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) with ARL:UT.

Responsibilities

• Assembly, test, production, and validation of hardware at the component and system level
• Design and development of mechanical packaging for high frequency sonar applications
• Development of structural mechanical components for electronics packaging
• Development of transducer and sonar assembly tooling
• Maintenance of design documentation, production procedures, and mechanical part and assembly drawings
• Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical area.
• Familiarity with mechanical design involving product development from concept, to detailed design, to manufacturing.
• Demonstrated experience in design and development of mechanical components using SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
• Experience interfacing with vendors and machine shops to procure mechanical components.
• Experience and training with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member with and without daily supervision, work several overlapping projects over a short period of time, ability to work within an environment with rapidly changing priorities, and effectively communicate with all groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Two or more years of professional experience as a mechanical engineer in a design-oriented position.
• Experience in the mechanical design and specification of electronic printed circuit card assemblies and thermal cooling systems.
• Experience as a mechanical engineer in an industrial production position.
• Experience performing finite element analysis (FEA) for structural analysis of mechanical components using SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent software.
• Experience in the mechanical design and specification of high frequency transducer assemblies and associated assembly tooling.
• Experience in the mechanical design of sonar system support.
• Experience soldering and performing manual machining or welding.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0

Salary Range

$88,500-$120,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications.
