Saronic Technologies is seeking a Naval Architect Intern to support the design, analysis, and development of autonomous surface vessels. The role offers hands-on experience in traditional naval architecture and autonomous tech within the defense sector.

Ideal candidates are pursuing Naval Architecture, Marine or Ocean Engineering and will be mentored by senior engineers. This is an in-office internship at our Austin HQ from May through August 2027, 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a relevant degree in naval architecture, marine or ocean engineering.
  • Fundamental ship design, stability and hydrodynamics knowledge.
  • Familiar with CAD and simulation tools used in vessel design.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design, development, and analysis of hull forms and systems for ASVs.
  • Perform hydrodynamic and stability calculations and simulate propulsion and maneuvering.
  • Collaborate on CAD modeling, structural design, and weight management.
  • Support integration of autonomous navigation and control systems.
  • Contribute to model testing, validation, and design reviews.

Job Overview

We are seeking a talented and motivated Naval Architect Intern to support the design, analysis, and development of autonomous surface vessels. This role will provide hands‑on experience in traditional naval architecture and advanced autonomous technologies, driving impact in defense innovation.

This internship is ideal for students pursuing Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, and Ocean Engineering, or a related field, and eager to make an impact in the defense tech industry. All interns will be supported and mentored by experienced Naval Architects.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design, development, and analysis of vessel hull forms, structures, and systems for ASVs

  • Conduct hydrodynamic and stability calculations, including resistance, propulsion, and maneuvering simulations

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to perform CAD modeling, structural design, and weight management for vessel optimization

  • Support the integration of autonomous navigation and control systems into vessel designs

  • Assist in conducting model tests and validation in collaboration with engineers and programmers

  • Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions for new and existing vessel concepts

  • Research and stay updated on new developments in naval architecture, autonomous technology, and defense requirements

  • Support documentation, technical writing, and preparation of reports for internal use and client presentations

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field

  • Basic knowledge of naval architecture principles, including ship design, stability, and hydrodynamics

  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Rhino, AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and simulation tools (e.g., Orca3D, ANSYS, or equivalent)

  • This role requires full‑time in office presence (40 hours/week) based at our headquarters in Austin, TX, from May through August 2027

Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Occasional standing and walking within the office

  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment

  • Visual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports

  • Occasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies

  • Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, packages)
