Job summary

Audubon Nature Institute seeks an Operations Ranger for the Louisiana Nature Center in New Orleans. The role focuses on daily operations, horticulture, grounds care, housekeeping, and light maintenance to support conservation and guest engagement.

Under supervision of the Ranger and Operations Manager, you will maintain indoor/outdoor spaces, assist with safety plans, and coordinate with the Engagement team to fulfill organizational priorities. This is a full-time on-site position in Louisiana.

Qualifications

• Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions.
• Ability to use mobile devices, computer, fax, scanner, phone and copier.
• Comfortable around chainsaw activity and able to learn to operate.
• Proficient with common hand and power tools.
• Willingness to operate janitorial equipment daily.
• Previous park or nature center experience preferred.
• Experience in custodial/janitorial, security, building trades acceptable alternatives.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the Nature Center facilities, trails, exhibits, and equipment as directed.
• Opens and closes the facility per schedule and procedures.
• Ensures restrooms, Planetarium, Interpretive Center and classrooms are ready for use.
• Assists with reserving, preparing, and maintaining Nature Center rooms and spaces.
• Assists ALNC Safety Officer with safety, emergency, and hurricane plans; carries out post-storm procedures.
• Be willing to work in a natural environment across seasons and protect wildlife habitats.
• Learn and preserve the native ecology of the region and its place in the global setting.
• Assist in removal of invasive species and lead volunteers in restoration projects.
