Job summary

Abbott Construction is seeking a Superintendent to oversee daily job-site operations, including scheduling, production, and procurement of materials, manpower, and equipment. The role involves supervising direct labor, managing contracted work, and ensuring on-site project completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of experience in ground-up commercial projects, particularly in the light industrial and/or cold storage sector.
• Has a valid driver’s license and is able to travel to and from the project site.
• Understands and applies building codes and other design requirements correctly and reads blueprints accurately.
• Has good written and verbal communication skills; basic Spanish preferred.
• Has good administrative skills: monitors the progress and coordination of work activities; keeps other members of the organization informed of progress and problems.

Responsibilities

• Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction, staffing, and scheduling for each phase.
• Interacts with the Project Manager to determine the project schedule and uses look-ahead schedules.
• Coordinates the pre-construction meeting with the Project Manager prior to mobilization.
• Directs procurement of tools and materials to meet work schedules.
• Keeps all parties informed of construction issues and progress; coordinates with subcontractors and clients as needed.
• Works with supervisory personnel to resolve complaints and improve construction methods.
• Inspects work to ensure conformance with specifications and schedules.
• Manages the project and adjusts schedules based on progress and costs.
• Moves personnel between projects with the Manager of Craft Resources; manages labor costs.
