Job summary

CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) seeks an experienced Manager/Director – National Tax Controversy to join our National Tax Office. The role focuses on leading the National Tax Controversy team, representing clients before the IRS, and developing firm-wide policies and resources.

Ideal candidates have CPA certification, 6+ years in strategic management within large professional services, and 10+ years in tax advocacy or controversy, with IRS experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• LLM or Master’s degree in taxation preferred.
• CPA required (Juris Doctorate or Enrolled Agent may be accepted in lieu of CPA).
• 6 years of experience in a large professional services or public accounting firm, driving strategic management required.
• 10+ years of experience in tax advocacy, examination, controversy or account resolution preferred.
• Prior experience at the IRS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the National Tax Controversy team.
• Represent clients before the IRS in examinations and appeals; handle tax issues and relief requests.
• Support client-relationship professionals with tax controversy issues.
• Develop controversy-related policies, procedures, tools, and resources.
• Draft internal and external communications; articles and blogs.
• Develop and present tax controversy webcasts for CLA professionals.
• Collaborate with Tax Quality and National Tax Office on firm-wide initiatives.
