NewsNation seeks an Assignment Desk Editor to operate on the national assignment desk from our New York offices. The role supports coverage across morning, dayside, and primetime programming for the 24-7 network, and requires joining NewsGuild upon hire.

The position is unionized and demands strong editorial judgment, quick coordination, and clear communication with field teams and stations nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Five to ten years newsroom experience, national or top local market.
• Willing to work extended/modified shifts as news developments warrant.
• Willing to work weekdays and holidays as needed.
• Strong writing, organizational and people skills.
• Attention to detail is essential.

Responsibilities

• Man NewsNation's national assignment desk during varied shifts.
• Identify stories of interest to a national audience.
• Research stories, verify information with sources, and report out.
• Gather video, audio, and images to tell stories.
• Coordinate coverage with correspondents, producers and photojournalists.
• Maintain contact with field teams to support live hits.
• Monitor social media and clear user generated content.
• Monitor competitive broadcasts and digital platforms.
• Collaborate with Nexstar TV stations to share content and resources.
• Coordinate booking of transmission facilities and satellite space as needed.
• Utilize file sharing platforms to gather video.
• Follow Rights and Clearances restrictions.
• Assist in compiling editorial and logistics notes for news teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
