Job summary

Benchmark Education Company is seeking a National Literacy Consultant for California to advance high-quality literacy education through Benchmark’s ELA curriculum and services. You will coach administrators, teachers and district staff, deliver PD, and support implementation both onsite and remotely, traveling up to 70% in CA.

The role requires strong presentation, client-focused mindset, and the ability to build durable partnerships with educators and district leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in K-12 education.
• Teaching experience in Comprehensive Literacy, Science of Reading Research, Intervention Work, or English Language Learner Support.
• Experience with technology in education and adult learning practices.
• Familiarity with CA state standards and CA literacy initiatives.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Zoom, TEAMS, and online tools (Google Classroom a plus).
• Superior communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to present to large audiences and key stakeholders in sales situations.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and achieve goals.
• High customer satisfaction and retention.
• Travel required up to 70%, including overnight stays.
• Valid driver’s license and REAL ID/Passport.
• Residence in CA near a major metropolitan airport.

Responsibilities

• Train administrators, coaches, teachers and district leaders on implementing Benchmark Education’s ELA curriculum, both print and digital, in dual-language settings.
• Deliver engaging professional development and in-service trainings for new and current users.
• Serve as subject matter expert in Benchmark Education products and literacy pedagogy.
• Develop and refine professional learning materials, presentations, and tools under PD leadership.
• Coach teachers and instructional teams through classroom modeling, observation, feedback, and demonstrations.
• Research and share best practices related to literacy instruction and instructional technologies.
• Travel up to 70% in CA, including overnight stays, and establish strong relationships with customers.
• Complete training documentation, implementation reports, and timely communications.
• Communicate customer feedback and CA market trends to internal stakeholders.
• Identify needs and recommend additional products and services to support dual language education.
• Adhere to organizational standards while pursuing ongoing training and professional growth.

Job description

Position Purpose:

The National Literacy Consultant- CA plays a critical role in advancing high-quality literacy education through the implementation of Benchmark Education’s instructional resources and services. This position serves as a trusted advisor to district and school leaders, providing professional learning, implementation support, coaching, and strategic guidance to ensure successful outcomes for all learners.

This role requires strong presentation skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to build lasting partnerships with educators and district stakeholders. He/she is actively involved and responsible for demonstrating professional credibility by providing the necessary consultation and training for BEC programs and related topics.

Key Responsibilities:

The National Literacy Consultant- CA is a Benchmark product and professional development specialist providing onsite and remote implementation/service as determined by the PD Region Consultant Manager. The literacy consultant is responsible for providing consultation and training to administrators, coaches, teachers and other district staff based on the training material that has been provided to him/her. Primary responsibilities include:

• Train administrators, coaches, teachers and other district leaders on the effective implementation of Benchmark Education Company’s English Language Arts (ELA) print and digital curriculum in dual-language settings
• Deliver engaging professional development and in-service trainings on all products for new and current users
• Serve as subject matter expert in Benchmark Education products, literacy pedagogy, and best practices
• Develop and refine professional learning materials, implementation resources, presentations, pacing guides, and tools for customer training and support under direction of PD leadership
• Coach and support individual teachers and instructional teams through classroom modeling, observation, feedback, and demonstration lessons in classrooms
• Research, develop, and share best practices related to literacy instruction, emerging instructional technologies, and effective teaching practices
• Work remotely while traveling up to 70% of the time in CA, including overnight stays
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with team members and customers
• Complete training documentation, implementation reports, and follow-up communications in a timely and professional manner
• Communicate customer feedback, CA market trends, and emerging needs related to dual language education, biliteracy, multilingual learners, and ELD to internal stakeholders
• Identify customer needs and recommend additional print, digital, assessment, and professional learning solutions that support dual language and bilingual program success
• Adhere to organizational expectations, procedures, and professional standards while actively participating in ongoing training and professional growth opportunities.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in K-12 education
• Teaching experience in one or of the following: Comprehensive Literacy, Science of Reading Research, Intervention Work, English Language Learner Support
• Experience with technology in education and adult learning practices

Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000

*The base salary range represents the low and high end of the expected salary range for the position. The base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors such as geographic location, experience, education, and skill level.
