NMSU Extension Animal Resources in Las Cruces seeks an Extension Horse Specialist to spearhead a nationally recognized equine outreach program.

The 1.0 full-time exempt role is tenure-track at Assistant/Associate/Professor level with statewide responsibilities and travel. Join a collaborative team across departments and industry to deliver impactful programs and secure external funding.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in animal sciences by employment date (preferred) or related field (e.g., DVM).
• Practical experience within and understanding of the equine industry.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills evidenced in CV.
• Knowledge of teaching and learning theories for youth and adults.
• Ability to collaborate with landowners, producers, agencies, and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of a nationally recognized Extension and outreach program focusing on equine.
• Foster collaborations with Extension personnel and horse-industry stakeholders in New Mexico.
• Support youth equine organizations with 4-H and FFA programs.
• Develop, deliver, and evaluate impactful extension programs.
• Produce peer-reviewed scholarship and Extension reports communicating results.
• Provide teaching materials and methods for off-campus educational programming.
• Engage in educational TV, radio, and news media.
• Provide programs and training to county Extension agents in New Mexico.
• Acquire external funding to support Extension programs.
