Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a National Equipment Manager to help build and manage our equipment operations across both our Brokerage and Asset divisions.

This is a mid-level management position with an initial focus on managing trailer pools across the country, improving equipment visibility, utilization, positioning, and overall process control.

The role will work closely with both Brokerage and Asset Operations and will serve as a central point of contact for equipment-related planning and execution.

As the position develops, responsibilities are expected to expand beyond trailers to include tractors and chassis.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with transportation, fleet, dispatch, or equipment-management experience who is looking to take ownership of a growing national operation and help build the processes behind it.

Key Responsibilities:
Trailer & Equipment Management:
  • Manage trailer pools across multiple locations and customer programs.
  • Maintain accurate visibility of trailer location, availability, and status.
  • Coordinate trailer repositioning based on customer and operational demand.
  • Monitor trailer utilization and dwell.
  • Identify equipment shortages and excess equipment across different markets.
  • Coordinate trailer recovery from customers, carriers, terminals, and drop yards.
  • Manage company-owned, rented, and leased trailer inventory.
  • Track rental agreements, lease expirations, and equipment availability.
  • Assist with new customer programs involving drop trailers and power-only operations.
Brokerage & Asset Operations Support:
  • Work directly with Brokerage and Asset Operations to determine equipment requirements.
  • Help plan trailer pools for new and existing customers.
  • Ensure Asset Operations has sufficient equipment to support drivers and freight demand.
  • Coordinate equipment allocation between terminals and markets.
  • Help resolve equipment imbalances before they create service issues.
  • Support power-only and drop-trailer opportunities.
Equipment Tracking & Reporting:
  • Develop and maintain centralized equipment tracking processes.
  • Provide daily and weekly equipment reporting.
  • Track trailers by status, including available, loaded, empty, at customer, in transit, under maintenance, and out of service.
  • Investigate missing or unaccounted-for equipment.
  • Monitor utilization and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary rental or lease costs.
  • Build reporting that provides management with clear visibility into equipment performance.
Maintenance Coordination:
  • Work with maintenance teams and outside vendors regarding equipment repairs and availability.
  • Track out-of-service equipment.
  • Monitor expected return-to-service dates.
  • Ensure maintenance status is reflected accurately in equipment reporting.
Future Growth of the Role:

As the position develops, responsibilities may expand to include:

  • Tractor assignment and utilization.
  • Tractor rental and lease management.
  • Tractor availability and out-of-service reporting.
  • Chassis inventory and utilization.
  • Chassis rental and per-diem management.
  • Equipment transfers between operating locations.
  • Fleet utilization reporting.
  • Equipment lifecycle planning.
  • This position is expected to grow into a broader fleet and asset-management role over time.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in transportation, trucking, logistics, fleet operations, equipment management, dispatch, or a related field.
  • Experience working with trailers, tractors, chassis, or transportation equipment preferred.
  • Strong operational and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across different locations and departments.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
  • Comfortable building and maintaining operational reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify equipment shortages, excess capacity, and utilization issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with TMS, fleet-management systems, GPS tracking, telematics, or similar transportation technology preferred.
What We Are Looking For:

We are looking for someone who understands that equipment availability directly impacts customer service, driver productivity, and profitability.

The ideal candidate will be:
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of a national process.
  • Able to work independently and make operational decisions.
  • Comfortable working across both Brokerage and Asset Operations.
  • Strong with reporting and data.
  • Proactive in identifying problems before they impact operations.
  • Capable of helping build processes rather than simply following existing ones.
  • Interested in growing into a broader fleet and equipment-management role.
Compensation:

$70,000-$90,000 annually, depending on experience.

This role offers significant growth potential as responsibilities expand from trailer management into broader tractor, chassis, and fleet asset management.
