Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York’s Greenpoint YMCA seeks a dedicated Yoga Instructor to lead interactive My Grown Up & Me Yoga for children aged 2–5 and their caregivers. You will foster a safe, engaging environment with movement, storytelling, and mindfulness.

Required: RYT-200, current CPR/First Aid, and experience teaching children’s fitness. RCYT preferred. Join a team committed to healthy living and family enrichment at the Greenpoint location.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching children’s fitness or early childhood education.
• Valid Yoga Instructor Certification (RYT-200).
• RCYT certification highly preferred.
• CPR or First Aid certifications current.
• National Group Exercise certifications (ACE/ACSM/AFAA/YMCA) current.
• Knowledge of Healthy Living principles at the Y.
• YMCA hospitality training within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver My Grown Up & Me Yoga classes for toddlers (ages 2–5) and caregivers.
• Create a welcoming, playful environment using movement, storytelling, and mindfulness.
• Greet participants before class and help new participants acclimate.
• Ensure participant safety; inspect floors/equipment and report needs.
• Instruct poses and breathing suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
• Use appropriate music at the supervisor-set level.
• Maintain class attendance records and required certifications in Club Connect.
• Stay updated on branch emergency procedures and safety actions.
• Represent the Y positively and answer questions about the class curriculum.

This role focuses on leading interactive, engaging yoga classes designed for toddlers/young children (ages 2-5) and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers.Key Responsibilities:Design and deliver safe, fun, dynamic, and effective My Grown Up & Me Yoga classes.Create a welcoming and playful environment that uses movement, storytelling, and mindfulness to foster early motor skill development and strengthen the caregiver-child bond.Arrive before class starts to allow time to greet all participants and help new participants acclimate.Wear the designated uniform.Start each class with an introduction.Be responsible for participant safety; inspect floors, equipment, and supplies, and notify the supervisor of equipment in need of repair and /or the need for more/updated equipment.Instruct poses and breathing exercises that are accessible to both young children and adults of varying fitness levels, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all family structures.Use appropriate music at a sound level set by the supervisor.Maintain awareness of current fitness programs and trends, available through Club Connect.Maintain attendance records.Maintain required certifications, tracked in Club Connect.Actively participate in training sessions and designated meetings.Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate action in emergency situations.Act as a positive ambassador for our youth and family programs, building rapport with families and answering questions about class curriculum or other enrichment offerings.Desired Skills & Experience:High School Diploma or equivalent required.Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience teaching children’s fitness, early childhood education, or leading youth enrichment programs (e.g., afterschool programs, day camps).Valid Yoga Instructor Certification (RYT-200).Specialized training or certification in Children’s Yoga (RCYT) is highly preferred.Current adult CPR or First Aid certifications.Current National Group Exercise certifications (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or YMCA).Knowledge of Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y and Principles of Member Health & Wellness.Foundations of Listen First.Must attend the YMCA hospitality training within ninety (90) days of hire.Benefits:The YMCA of Greater New York offers a variety of benefits to its staff members, including retirement benefits, medical, paid time off, free YMCA membership, and more!
