Job summary

MXL Industries in Lancaster, PA is hiring an Engineering Technician to support setup, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment and automation for production and engineering teams.

This Exempt position reports to the Engineering Manager and requires attention to safety, teamwork, and quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. On-call duties and strong documentation are part of the role.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school preferred
  • 2 years of mechanical or maintenance trades experience
  • PLC and robotics troubleshooting experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Sets up equipment and automation for production and engineering support
  • Inspects finished products for quality and adherence to specs
  • Operates production equipment per GMPs and SOPs
  • Calibrates equipment to ensure quality production using precision tools
  • Monitors production processes and equipment for quality and productivity
  • Troubleshoots equipment, devices, or products; on-call rotation
  • Tests products and subassemblies for functionality or quality
  • Plans and lays out work to meet production and schedule requirements
  • Starts up and shuts down processing equipment
  • Performs routine maintenance and identifies maintenance needs
  • Develops procedures for reliability and availability
  • Tests/troubleshoots PLC programs used for process automation
  • Keeps organized records of troubleshooting and testing
  • Recommends process improvements to boost productivity and quality
  • Provides technical guidance and attends meetings for direction
  • Communicates professionally with stakeholders
  • Follows safety rules and procedures

Job Summary

Responsibility for setup, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment and automation as required for support of production and engineering efforts. This position provides support to maintenance when required for complex troubleshooting and repair.

This position requires attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality - reflecting Plaskolite's core values of Integrity and Improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up equipment and automation as required for support of production and engineering efforts
  • Adheres to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Inspects finished products for quality and adherence to customer specifications.
  • Sets up and operates production equipment in accordance with current good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Calibrates or adjusts equipment to ensure quality production, using tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, protractors, or ring gauges.
  • Sets up and verifies the functionality of safety equipment.
  • Monitors and adjusts production processes or equipment for quality and productivity.
  • Troubleshoots problems with equipment, devices, or products. Will be placed in an on-call rotation.
  • Tests products or subassemblies for functionality or quality.
  • Plans and lays out work to meet production and schedule requirements.
  • Starts up and shuts down processing equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of the operational theory, maintenance requirements, and operational procedures for all equipment under the engineering support technician’s control.
  • Develops and validates operations and maintenance procedures as required to ensure reliability and availability of all equipment under the engineering technician’s control.
  • Tests and/or troubleshoots PLC programs used for process automation and control.
  • Monitors and maintains coating chemistry as required.
  • Keeps well-organized written records of all troubleshooting, setup, and testing activities performed.
  • Improves process reliability and automation, where practical, to the point that production personnel own the process and require limited engineering support.
  • Recommends improvements to existing processes and procedures which will increase productivity, reduce operational costs, improve margins, improve safety, and/or improve MXL product quality.
  • Assists others by providing professional, technical guidance.
  • Attends meetings to provide technical support and direction.
  • Communicates with co-workers, management, customers, vendors and others in a courteous, respectful and professional manner.
  • Conforms with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Conforms to all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Technical school - preferred
