Job summary

The Ohio Turnpike & Infrastructure Commission is seeking an experienced MW Class IV-A Plumber to join the Maintenance Department in the Eastern Division. Responsibilities include installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems across toll plazas, service plazas and maintenance buildings.

Candidates should have an Associate of Applied Science in Plumbing or a Plumbing Apprenticeship, with two years of recent plumbing experience; HVAC experience is preferred and a Class D license with CDL

Qualifications

  • Requires an Associate of Applied Science in Plumbing with two years of plumbing experience or completion of Plumbing Apprenticeship.
  • Experience with rest room facilities, boilers, water supply systems, sanitary sewers, various pumps, and control systems is required.
  • HVAC systems experience is strongly preferred.

The Ohio Turnpike & Infrastructure Commission is seeking an experienced MW Class IV-A Plumber to work in our Maintenance Department – in the Eastern Division on the Ohio Turnpike. Work Location

While this position will work throughout the Eastern Division, this position will be able to start and end their day at either the Amherst Maintenance Building in Amherst, OH (Lorain County, Milepost 141.0), the Boston Maintenance Building in Richfield, OH (Summit County, Milepost 173.9), the Hiram Maintenance Building in Windham, OH (Portage County, Milepost 198.6), or the Canfield Maintenance Building in Canfield, OH (Mahoning County, Milepost 228.1)

Examples of Duties

Job Duties
  • Assigned duties relevant to skilled plumbing as required for the operations of the maintenance Division, which will include maintenance buildings, toll plazas, service plazas and all other Commission maintained plumbing installations
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of service plazas, maintenance buildings and toll plazas and other facilities plumbing systems, rest room facilities, underground systems, water supply systems, pumps, associated components and equipment for water and wastewater systems
  • Water supply and wastewater systems; hot water heating equipment; HVAC controls; chilled water-cooling systems; boilers and burner units; submersible pumps and fuel distribution systems; commercial plumbing systems; underground water mains up to 8” diameter; valves; wastewater treatment plant and lift/pump stations, etc.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment to meet the needs of the Commission, including repair and installation of all types of building wastewater, water, portable water treatment and other equipment
  • Perform assignments that may include service and repair of mechanical equipment and portable power tools
  • Perform operational maintenance, minor service, and adjustment for building and physical plant equipment, which include heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, boilers, pumps, mechanical and electrical control type systems, fixtures, backflow prevention, fire suppression systems, etc. cleaning, testing, and reporting.
  • Perform any other duties necessary and incidental as may be assigned by the Division Trades Supervisor and/or Assistant Trades Supervisor.
Work Characteristics
  • Knowledge of commercial plumbing and HVAC systems and safety practices associated with repair of building mechanical systems and components and/or equipment; wastewater systems and building equipment.
  • Comprehension of plans/blueprints and schematics; basic arithmetic; agency policies and procedures.
  • Skill in operating hand and power tools related to repair and maintenance of building plumbing, mechanical components, and equipment.
  • Ability to understand system and mechanical processes.
  • Work independently on most tasks; stand, walk or bend continuously; lift and carry 40 pounds frequently and 80 pounds occasionally.
  • Use mechanical equipment; radio and telephone communications.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Qualified applicants must possess an Associate of Applied Science in Plumbing with two (2) years recent work experience in plumbing; or completion of Plumbing Apprenticeship.
  • Must have experience in rest room facilities, boilers, water supply systems, sanitary sewers, various pumps, and control systems.
  • HVAC systems experience is strongly preferred.

Must possess a valid Class "D" Driver's License at the date of hire and obtain a Class “B” Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement within six (6) months of permanent assignment
