Job summary

Inspire Academy of Music and Arts in Pleasanton, California, is expanding by developing a dedicated music therapy program for children and families. We are seeking a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) to help establish and grow this new offering within our established music school.

This is a part-time role with flexible hours (approximately 3–8 hours per week) and will provide space at the academy, with scheduling and administration support from Inspire.

Qualifications

• MT-BC certification is required.
• Bachelor's or master's in music therapy from an approved program.
• Clinical experience with children preferred.
• Experience with developmental disabilities or autism is a plus.
• Strong musical skills and ability to use various instruments.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and develop a new program.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and/or small-group music therapy sessions.
• Conduct appropriate assessments and develop individualized treatment goals.
• Design and implement music therapy interventions based on each client’s needs.
• Work primarily with children and adolescents.
• Maintain appropriate clinical documentation and professional standards.
• Communicate professionally with parents/guardians and, when appropriate, other professionals involved in a client’s care.
• Help identify opportunities to develop and expand the music therapy program at Inspire Academy.
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for clients.

Position Overview

This is an opportunity for a motivated music therapist tobuild and grow a music therapy practice within an established music academy.

We are open to starting with a small number of hours per week and expanding as the program develops. The position may be a good fit for an MT-BC who already has another position and is interested in private practice, additional part-time work, or developing a new client base.

The therapist will have professional studio space at our academy, while Inspire Academy will support the program through scheduling, administrative assistance, and community outreach.

Qualifications

• MT-BC (Music Therapist – Board Certified) certification required
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in music therapy from an approved program
• Clinical experience working with children is strongly preferred
• Experience with developmental disabilities, autism, special education, or other diverse populations is a plus
• Strong musical skills and the ability to use a variety of instruments and musical approaches
• Warm, patient, and professional approach to working with children and families
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and take initiative in developing a new program

Schedule

• Part-time, flexible schedule
• Initially approximately3–8 hours per week, with the opportunity to grow
• Afternoon/evening and/or weekend availability preferred
• Schedule will be developed based on therapist availability and client demand

Compensation

Competitive per-session compensation, based on experience, qualifications, and session type.

We are open to discussing a compensation structure that works well for an independent practitioner and allows the program to grow.
