Job description

We are seeking a Christ-centered Music Teacher (part time) who is called to be part of our Guardian Academy team and is skilled in helping students grow in academic excellence built upon a biblical worldview. If this sounds like your ministry calling, keep reading to see if we’re a match!

Your primary responsibility will be to develop our students’ musical skills and appreciation.

This will include preparing lesson plans, teaching music theory, ideally teaching different musical instruments, and guiding students for musical performances. Our ideal candidate has a strong musical background, a passion for teaching, and outstanding communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Planning and preparing music lessons in line with curriculum objectives.
  • Teaching music theory, aural skills and practical techniques to students.
  • Encouraging creativity and teaching musical expression.
  • Teaching students how to use different musical instruments.
  • Plan, instruct, support, and assess students’ strengths and weaknesses and adapt to help students be successful.
  • Organizing and directing school musical or concerts.
  • Assessing students’ abilities, providing feedback and writing reports.
  • Maintaining discipline in the classroom.
  • Keeping up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice.
  • Follow, develop, and modify the curriculum to most effectively help students learn.
  • Keep lesson plans up to date within FACTS.
  • Model, demonstrate, and teach Christian character traits to students.
  • Develop additional materials to help keep learning fun and interesting such as competitions, group discussions, and quizzes.
  • Motivate and inspire students to learn while creating a friendly environment.
  • Monitor students in a variety of educational environments including classrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Identify students’ individual needs and help resolve learning and/or personal issues while in close communication with parents.
  • Maintain order in the classroom.
  • Keep attendance records.
  • Attend and contribute to IEP and 504 meetings as needed.
  • Work closely with administration, staff, and other teachers.
  • In order to provide a positive learning experience, report incidents (student fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, etc.) to maintain students' personal safety.
  • Maintain records of progress and discuss with parents.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and extracurricular events/activities.
  • Assist with student drop-off, pick-up, and lunch-hour monitoring.
  • Refer and adhere to all guidelines, policies, and procedures outlined in our current teacher handbook.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Music Education
  • A Current Ohio Teaching License, or a Permanent Non-Tax Certification
  • One Year of Teaching Experience
  • Proven experience as a Music Teacher or relevant role.
Background Check Requirements
  • All Guardian Academy Staff Members will be asked to comply with both BCI and FBI background checks.
Additional Qualifications
  • Professional musician with performance experience will be a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of music theory and the ability to teach it to students.
  • Ability to play and teach different musical instruments.
  • Excellent communication with students, parents, teachers, and staff
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Flexible in fulfilling needs of Guardian Academy when needed (i.e., covering another class if able) and adaptive to last-minute changes
  • Demonstrate the ability to receive and apply constructive criticism.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be flexible and calm under pressure and during change
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work and complete tasks unsupervised
  • Solution-oriented and a creative problem solver
  • Patience and the ability to handle students of different age groups.
Time Requirements
  • We will discuss the days needed for this part-time position
  • Any Teacher In-Service dates as outlined in the Teacher Handbook and annual calendar
  • Any Staff Meetings required by Principal or any other leader
  • Any mandatory orientation or extra-curricular activity requested by the school director and/or principal
