Job summary

The Catholic Center is seeking a Music Director to oversee all liturgical music for the parish. You will collaborate with the pastor, clergy, choir leaders, staff, and parishioners to provide meaningful music for Masses and liturgies while honoring the parish’s musical traditions.

• Bachelor’s degree in music required; Catholic liturgical knowledge preferred.

• Strong organizational and communication skills required.
• Ability to work with traditional, contemporary, Spanish-language, and youth music.

Responsibilities

• Plan music for Masses/liturgies in collaboration with clergy.
• Direct the Parish Choirs for Saturday 5pm and Sunday 10am.
• Assist Spanish-language Mass music leadership.
• Lead rehearsals for English and Spanish choirs and accompany Sunday Masses.
• Serve as accompanist for Cantors and Masses; plan for Holy Week/Easter.
• Manage scheduling, recruitment, instrument maintenance, subscriptions, and budget.

Job description

The Music Director will oversee all aspects of the liturgical music of the parish. The Music Director will work with the pastor and clergy, parish choir leaders, parish choir leaders, parish and school staff, and parishioners to provide meaningful music for Masses and liturgies that enables active congregation participation while honoring the parish’s music traditions.

Key responsibilities

• Plan music and approve appropriate for Masses/liturgies through collaboration with clergy.
• Direct the Choirs of Saturday - 5pm and Sunday - 10am
• Assists Choirs of Masses held in Spanish
• Leads and assists rehearsals of the parish choirs (English and Spanish)
• Serve as accompanist for Sunday 10am, Solemnity Masses and other Masses as needed
• Lead a larger combined choir and instrumentalist ensemble for Holy Week/Easter and special event Masses
• Plan music for weddings, funerals and serve as accompanist for cantor unless alternative arrangements made
• Handle administrative details including scheduling/recruitment, music instrument/equipment maintenance, subscription maintenance, budget management
• A Bachelor’s Degree in aMusic Discipline.
• 3+ years in church music leadership.
• Piano proficiency and accompaniment ability.
• Through knowledge of Catholic teachings/practices and of Catholic liturgical guidelines/norms.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work with many forms of music including traditional, contemporary, Spanish-language, and age-appropriate music.
• Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background and reference check; must complete Diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in music discipline a plus
• Organ accompaniment ability desired, but not required
• Spanish fluency
