Job summary

School of Rock Montclair is looking for passionate music instructors who are dedicated to providing performance-based music education. Candidates must possess over 3 years of teaching and/or performing experience, knowledge of music theory, and strong customer relations skills. Instructors will create engaging lesson plans and communicate effectively with students and parents. The role requires availability on evenings and at least one weekend shift.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience teaching and/or performing music professionally.
• Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design.
• Excellent ability to deal with a wide range of customers and other people.

With over 350 schools, and a strong internationally recognized brand, School of Rock is the largest after‑school music education provider in the world. We put on shows to teach music! We are looking for Instructors to join us at our Montclair location. In order to be considered, candidates must be available evenings and at least one weekend shift.

Responsibilities

As an Instructor you will be responsible for all music education‑related elements within the lessons and rehearsals, creating a dynamic experience to ensure students are challenged and inspired. The Instructor positively embodies rock and roll and is responsible for creating a valuable student experience that helps our students learn music and life skills.

Music Instruction

• Maximize the quality of music instruction including one‑on‑one lessons and group classes and rehearsals
• Be sure the students are learning the fundamentals of music, not just songs
• Create and document thoughtful lesson plans using School of Rock's patented methods

Customer Connection

• Communicate regularly with parents on progress of students after lessons
• Interact with parents, students, co‑workers and managers regularly by being visible and accessible in the school
• Pitch in during schedule gaps in the overall execution of our program and maintenance of the school/equipment
• Assist in group classes and rehearsals
• Adheres to the School of Rock Code of Conduct, safety policies, including the Monitoring and Supervision policy

Skill Requirements

• 3+ years’ experience teaching and/or performing music professionally
• Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design
• Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers and other people
• Strong organizational skills
• Very strong customer relations skills
• Resourceful and good problem‑solver
• Works well under pressure
• Ideal candidate is a working musician who also has formal music school training
• Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor
• Good judgment a must
