Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a music instructor to plan and teach lessons aligned with Salvation Army guidelines and the Chad Smith Foundation expectations.

Responsibilities include curriculum development, coordinating performances and recitals, and reporting on student progress while fostering a positive learning environment for youth participants.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Instructor is responsible for their own personal instrument(s).
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree or professional certification in music preferred.
  • At least one year of experience as a performing/practicing musician.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles semester-long curriculum syllabus according to instrument or vocal.
  • Coordinates recitals and performances for advanced classes and Jam sessions.
  • Conducts music lessons for beginner/ intermediate levels (35-minute sessions), and advanced level and Jam sessions (50-minute sessions).
  • Conducts lessons for ages 9–12 and 13–18 with cohorts up to 5 students.
  • Completes CSF lesson reporting and intake forms, including tracking attendance and engagement.
  • Communicates the philosophy and programs of The Salvation Army and Chad Smith Foundation to students and parents.
  • Develops and maintains a positive climate and environment in the program space.
  • Maintains a safe, neat workspace and reports any equipment repairs.

Job description

Job Objective:

Plan and teach music lessons for music program participants consistent with Salvation Army program guidelines and Chad Smith Foundation (CSF) expectations.

Essential Functions:

  • Assembles semester-long curriculum syllabus according to selected instrument or vocal.
  • Coordinates recitals and performances for students of advanced classes and Jam sessions.
  • Conducts music lessons for beginner/ intermediate levels (35-minute sessions), and advanced level and Jam sessions (50-minute sessions) on assigned scheduled days.
  • Conducts lessons for age groups of 9 to 12 and 13 to 18 years old with cohorts of up to 5 members at a time. Start times will be established with the supervisor and CSF contact.
  • Completes all CSF required lesson reporting and intake forms, including tracking attendance, student engagement, and other program impact metrics
  • Communicates the philosophy, objectives, standards, and programs of the Salvation Army, through all methods available to students, their parents, and the public.
  • Communicates the philosophy, objectives, standards, and programs of the partnering organization, Chad Smith Foundation, through all methods available to students, their parents, and the public.
  • Develops and maintains positive climate and environment with program space.
  • Maintains a safe, neat, and organized workspace.
  • Maintains equipment and resources. Conducts basic maintenance of music equipment and notifies site and CSF managers of repairs needed for programming.
  • Encourages emotional, social, and educational growth of program participants.
  • Must participate in required training courses by the Salvation Army, County, State, and/or funders.
Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:
