Job summary

Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco's Exhibition Design Department seeks an Exhibition Designer to develop and draft floor plans, elevations, and drawings for temporary exhibitions and gallery rotations, ensuring ADA compliance and collaboration with curators and conservators.

The role is hybrid (4 days onsite weekly) with a union benefits package, medical/dental/vision, and a pay scale from $39.46 to $52.88 per hour.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Architecture strongly preferred.
• Master of Architecture (M.Arch) or 5-year B.Arch preferred.
• Four years of progressively responsible exhibition design or related architectural/interior design experience.
• Experience in galleries or art museums is a plus.
• Advanced skills in Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite; proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Develop design concepts and produce sketches, layouts, and drawings for temporary exhibitions and permanent gallery rotations.
• Prepare plans, elevations, renderings, and detailed construction drawings to deadlines and standards.
• Collaborate with curators, conservators, registrar, and project staff throughout the design and installation process.
• Maintain an organized archive of drawings, inventories, and materials; manage library of samples and wall configurations.
• Assist during art installations to ensure design intent and address design-related questions.
