Qualifications

  • Two to four years of museum, school district, or classroom experience; experience with inquiry-based tours preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License and must meet insurability requirements.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Museum Educator represents the City of Gallup and, as such, will provide the highest level of customer service and maintain professionalism at all times. The Museum Educator will work in collaboration with the Director and other Museum staff on the conceptualization, development, and implementation of education programs; the determination of institutional educational priorities, and the cultivation of community partnerships. The Museum Educator will provide leadership in the development and preparation of grant proposals for educational programs and support. In collaboration with all museum staff, the Museum Educator will have creative responsibility and authority for the overall educational direction of the Museum. The Museum Educator will contribute to the development of short-term and long-range, strategic, intellectual, and engagement goals as the Museum continues the expansion of its programs and collections. The Museum Educator will collaborate with staff and other City departments to create educational programs at the Museum as well as outreach events beyond the Museum walls. The Museum Educator will manage the marketing for educational programs and events.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

STARTING PAY: $32.55 p/h

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A degree in Education, Art Education, Museum Education, or Art History or teaching certificate preferred; Bachelor’s degree required in one of the fields but a Master’s is preferred.
  • Must have two (2) to four (4) years of experience in a museum, school district, or classroom. Experience developing and facilitating inquiry-based tours preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License and must meet the City’s insurability requirements.
OTHER CONDITIONS:
  • Must pass background check

  • Experience with inquiry based learning or similar engagement techniques
