Job summary

Boca Raton Museum of Art in Boca Raton, FL is seeking part‑time Museum Educators to engage with PreK–12 visitors and families through guided tours, gallery activities, and Creation Station programs. Qualifications

• High school diploma required; further education or coursework is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

SUPERVISORS: Director of Learning & Engagement / Assistant Curator of Youth & Family Programs

STATUS: Seasonal, part-time (9–18 hours per week)

SEASON: September 9, 2026–May 9, 2027

INITIAL TRAINING: August 28, 1:00–4:00 pm; August 29 & 30, 9:00 am–4:00 pm

SCHEDULE: After initial training, shifts are scheduled Wednesday–Sunday 9:30 am to 2:00 pm and Thursdays 4:30 to 8:00 pm. Monthly required trainings will occur on the second Friday of every month, October–April, 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Museum Educators must provide recurring weekly availability for a minimum of two days. Work schedules are issued one month at a time and may vary according to school‑tour reservations, public programs, and operational needs.

PAY RATE: $500 for completion of initial training; after training, $18 per scheduled hour

Museum Educators are welcoming, public-facing facilitators who help children, families, school groups, and general visitors discover and engage with art. Through conversation, play, movement, tactile learning, and hands‑on artmaking, Museum Educators create active and accessible experiences that invite visitors to make meaningful connections with works of art.

Weekly assignments may include facilitating interdisciplinary PreK–12 school tours, leading family-friendly gallery games and object-handling experiences, welcoming visitors to interactive spaces throughout the Museum, or facilitating Creation Station, the Museum’s weekend drop‑in artmaking program inspired by works on view.

The Museum engages approximately 5,000 schoolchildren each year. Its school programs use works of art as starting points for connections across subject areas. Museum Educators adapt their approach for students with a wide range of backgrounds, learning styles, and prior experiences with art museums.

The ideal candidate is friendly, outgoing, adaptable, and strongly customer-service-oriented. Candidates should enjoy working with children and families, feel comfortable initiating conversations with visitors, and be enthusiastic about helping people experience the Museum as a welcoming space for discovery.

Training on the Museum’s collection, exhibitions, educational approach, facilitation techniques, and program curricula will be provided.

Funding for Museum Educators for the 2026–2027 season is made possible by the Estate of Jay and Jane Braus.

Specific Responsibilities

School Tour Facilitation

• Facilitate interdisciplinary, inquiry-driven gallery tours for PreK–12 students using active-learning and object-based teaching strategies.
• Adapt tour content, pacing, vocabulary, and activities to meet the developmental needs and learning objectives of different grade levels.
• Facilitate or assist with tour-related studio activities.
• Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, chaperones, fellow Museum Educators, docents, teaching artists, and Museum staff.

Family and Public Gallery Engagement

• Welcome and engage children, families, and general visitors throughout the Museum with warmth, enthusiasm, and attentiveness.
• Facilitate family-friendly gallery activations, including tactile object-handling experiences, looking activities, creative prompts, and gallery games.
• Initiate informal conversations that help visitors connect with works of art and feel comfortable participating.
• Facilitate Creation Station, the Museum’s weekend drop-in program featuring hands-on art activities inspired by works on view.
• Explain artmaking activities clearly and provide age-appropriate assistance to children and their caregivers.
• Oversee designated interactive areas throughout the Museum, ensuring that materials are organized, replenished, accessible, and used appropriately.
• Monitor interactive spaces and help maintain a safe, welcoming, and orderly environment.
• Adapt activities and interactions to respond to visitors of different ages, abilities, interests, and levels of familiarity with art.

Preparation & Training

• Attend and actively participate in the required initial training program:
  • Friday, August 28, 2026, from 1:00–5:00 pm
  • Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 9:00 am–4:00 pm
  • Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 9:00 am–4:00 pm
• Attend continuing trainings on the second Friday of every month, October–April, 2:00–4:00 pm.
• Review tour materials, activity instructions, lesson plans, exhibition information, and assigned resources in advance of scheduled programs.
• Develop familiarity with the Museum’s collection and temporary exhibitions.
• Incorporate coaching and feedback from Learning & Engagement staff into practice.
• Participate in post-tour conversations and reflective evaluation exercises

Scheduling & Program Operations

• Provide recurring weekly availability for at least two days between Wednesday and Sunday.
• Maintain availability for 9–18 scheduled hours per week during the September 9, 2026–May 9, 2027 season.
• Review monthly schedules promptly and communicate any scheduling conflicts or changes as soon as possible.
• Arrive on time and prepared for assigned tours, including assisting with program setup and cleanup as needed.
• Assist with program setup, cleanup, material preparation, and replenishment as needed.
• Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding absences, visitor concerns, safety issues, or program needs.
• Help maintain art materials, tactile objects, teaching resources, and interactive spaces in an organized and orderly condition.
• Share observations and feedback regarding visitor participation, student engagement, teacher responses, and program effectiveness.
• Follow all Museum policies and procedures related to customer service, child safety, accessibility, emergency response, and the protection of works of art.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred:

• Degree or coursework in education, museum education, art education, art history, studio art, humanities, or a related field.
• Experience facilitating inquiry-based, object-based, or interdisciplinary learning.
• Experience working with PreK–12 students in a museum, school, camp, after-school program, or other informal learning environment.
• Experience working with students from Title I schools.
• Bilingual Spanish/English communication skills.

Training & Selection

Candidates selected to participate in the required three-day training program will receive a $500 training stipend. Participation in and completion of the training program do not guarantee an offer of seasonal employment. Final employment decisions will be made following training and will consider each candidate’s demonstrated readiness to perform the role, participation and attendance during training, ability to meet scheduling requirements, successful completion of required employment screening, and the Museum’s staffing and programmatic needs.
