Job summary

City of Gainesville, TX is seeking a skilled mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on the municipal fleet, including gasoline and diesel engines and hydraulic systems. Responsibilities include diagnosing complex issues, replacing parts, and performing road-side repairs as required.

The ideal candidate has two years of relevant experience and a high school diploma with automotive training. Valid driver's license and ASE certification are preferred, with the ability to obtain

Qualifications

• Two years of skilled mechanic experience in servicing and repair of vehicles.
• Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade with automotive repair training.
• Possession of a valid driver's license; ASE preferred but not required; able to obtain certification on request.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose and overhaul mechanical difficulties in City vehicles and equipment.
• Determine repairs and replace faulty parts; coordinate with supervisor for complex tasks.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repair on gasoline and diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
• Repair hydraulic systems and transmission components as needed; perform road-side repairs when required.
• Maintain shop cleanliness and handle parts and supplies as needed.
