Job summary

The Town of Flower Mound seeks an experienced Alternate Judge to support Municipal Court operations on an as-needed basis. The role conducts court proceedings in the absence of the Presiding Judge and performs magisterial duties as authorized by Texas law.

Responsibilities include handling arraignments, warrants, bail determinations, and adjudicating matters with fairness. Candidates must be licensed in Texas with strong knowledge of criminal procedure and court rules.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Licensed attorney in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
• US citizen and resident of Texas.
• Minimum of two years practicing law in Texas.
• Ability to perform judicial and magisterial functions under applicable law.
• Availability for an as-needed schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and after-hours duties.

Responsibilities

• Preside over municipal court proceedings in the absence of the Presiding Judge.
• Conduct arraignments, hearings, and warrant dockets.
• Interpret municipal ordinances and Texas statutes.
• Perform magisterial duties per Texas Code provisions.
• Set bail and determine conditions when required.
• Issue warrants and related judicial orders.
• Adjudicate matters fairly and efficiently.
• Provide coverage for the Presiding Judge as needed.
• Maintain continuing judicial education and stay current on court procedures.
• Collaborate with court staff, law enforcement, and prosecutors while maintaining independence.
