Job summary

The Town of Southbury is seeking a full-time Assistant Mechanic in the Public Works Highway Department. The role requires 40 hours per week with potential overtime and offers comprehensive medical benefits through the Teamsters union at no cost to the employee.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing diesel, gasoline, and alternative fuel engines, transmissions, suspension, electrical systems, and hydraulic components on municipal equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Five+ years experience on diesel-powered equipment.
• CDL Class B with airbrake and tanker endorsements, or must obtain within 9 months.
• Union representation by Teamsters Local 443.
• Must provide personal tool set.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair diesel, gasoline, and alternative fuel engines.
• Repair transmissions, clutches, drive systems, and final drive components.
• Diagnose and repair suspension, steering, power assist, and brake systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems.
• Plow snow and apply salt as needed.
• Maintain and repair fleet vehicles and equipment.
