Job summary

The City of Galena Park seeks an experienced Finance & Payroll Accountant to support day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, payroll, and financial reporting. The role requires meticulous recordkeeping, strong GAAP knowledge, and adherence to confidentiality.

Qualifications

• CPA license in good standing as required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Proven professional accounting experience in payroll, AP, and financial reporting.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and ethics.

Responsibilities

• Process and maintain accounts payable, invoices, and vendor payments.
• Administer purchase requests and purchase orders.
• Maintain purchasing records and supporting documentation.
• Process City payroll, including timesheets, overtime, deductions, leave, and payroll changes.
• Maintain employee payroll and financial records.
• Process new-hire payroll setup, compensation changes, and separation-related payroll transactions.
• Coordinate payroll-related benefits, retirement contributions, workers’ compensation reporting, and deductions.
• Maintain vendor records, W-9s, invoices, receipts, and payment documentation.
• Perform account, payroll, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Prepare and review financial reports and supporting schedules.
• Assist with annual audits and financial reporting.
• Maintain accurate and organized financial records in accordance with applicable retention requirements.
• Review transactions for appropriate authorization and supporting documentation.
• Assist City management with budgeting, financial analysis, and internal accounting controls.
• Perform other related accounting and finance duties as assigned.
