Job summary

The New York City Law Department seeks an Assistant Corporation Counsel for its Legal Counsel Division. The role provides counsel to the Mayor, City Council, and City agencies on municipal law, drafts legislation, and assists in shaping policy initiatives.

It also involves advising on compliance with laws and supporting litigation-related analysis. Salary ranges are provided by experience, and remote work options exist through two programs, with in-person obligations taking precedence.

Qualifications

• Graduates from an ABA accredited law school.
• Admitted, in good standing, to the practice of law in New York State.

Responsibilities

• Advise the Mayor, City Council and City agencies on municipal law.
• DraftState and local legislation and administrative rules.
• Answer questions from City Hall and agencies, analyze the scope of authority.
• Assess compliance of City actions with applicable laws and minimize legal risk.
• Support other Law Department divisions with legal analysis for litigation or other matters.
• Represent the Law Department on interagency task forces and coordinate with the Mayor’s Office on federal, state and local legislation.
