Job summary

The City of Kingston seeks an experienced Assistant Corporation Counsel to provide legal guidance to the Mayor, Common Council and City agencies. You will handle civil litigation, SEQRA and traffic matters, review contracts, and participate in negotiations.

Required are a J.D./LL.B. and NY Bar admission, plus two years of relevant legal experience. This is an exempt, full-time role with residency within 40 miles of Kingston preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from law school with an LL.B or J.D.
• Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
• Two years of relevant legal experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel to the Mayor, Common Council and City departments and boards.
• Represent the City of Kingston in legal proceedings.
• Engage in civil litigation, enforcement actions, and contract negotiation and drafting.
• Assist in SEQRA, land use, and vehicle & traffic matters.
• Prepare memoranda, opinions, and legal documents.
