Job summary

The City of Odessa is seeking a detail-oriented Budget Analyst to support the development and administration of the City’s operational budget. Under basic supervision, this role provides technical assistance through the budget development and approval process by gathering and analyzing financial data from departments, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with City policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
• Minimum of one year experience in government budgeting and/or accounting operations; two years preferred.
• Knowledge of municipal budget preparation and administration principles.
• Familiarity with GAAP for public sector financial management.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to organize work effectively, develop strategies, and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Support development and administration of the City’s operational budget under supervision.
• Gather and analyze financial, economic, and demographic data from departments; prepare reports.
• Research and present budget trends using charts, tables and narratives.
