Job summary

The Municipality of Anchorage seeks an experienced attorney for the Office of the Municipal Attorney. This executive, non-union role advises municipal departments and the Anchorage Assembly, handles civil litigation, and provides full legal services to municipal clients.

Under the direction of the Municipal Attorney and Deputy Municipal Attorney, you will oversee staff, mentor junior attorneys, participate in hiring decisions, and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the Alaska Bar within 90 days of hire.
• Four (4) years of experience as a Municipal Attorney I with the Municipality of Anchorage or equivalent elsewhere.
• Background checks including criminal, education, and employment history; credit check at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Represents the Municipality in civil litigation in state or federal court and in administrative proceedings.
• Provides a full range of legal services to municipal clients and advises all municipal departments and the Anchorage Assembly.
• Monitors staff, mentors newer attorneys, and participates in hiring decisions.
