Job summary

Mizuho Financial Group Inc. seeks an experienced Municipal Product Controller (VP) in New York to partner with Front Office, Risk and Finance for accurate P&L reporting and balance sheet validation. The role focuses on municipal bonds, tax-exempt markets, and market risk controls.

You will lead month-end close, investigate P&L discrepancies, and drive process improvements across desks and supporting teams; CPA and accounting degree preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Product Control experience in Municipals; required.
• Deep knowledge of municipal bonds, structured municipal finance, and tax-exempt markets.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles including Available for Sale (AFS).
• High attention to detail and collaboration skills.
• CPA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with front office personnel in producing daily, weekly, and monthly P&L results and analysis.
• Investigate and resolve P&L discrepancies arising from incorrect booking of trades, missing deals, system errors, or valuation issues.
• Liaison with various areas within the firm (e.g., Front Office, Operations, Technology, Middle Office, and Market Risk).
• Continue developing and improving the Internal Control environment through critical evaluation of current controls and processes and utilization of best practice.
• Complete the month end closing process for balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation.
• Ad hoc requests from the desk
• Drive process and system improvements through participation in various project initiatives.
• Assess new trades for appropriate valuation, accounting treatment, and disclosure in the financial statements.

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained.
