Job summary

TEGNA, Inc. | WNEP-TV in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA, seeks a talented Reporter/Multiskilled Journalist to craft compelling stories for TV and digital platforms. You will shoot, write, and edit under deadlines, delivering authentic on-air reports and engaging online content.

The role requires a BA/BS in journalism or related field, 1–3 years’ experience, and strong social media skills. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus; EDIUS knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
  • Experience in photojournalism, video editing, and content management systems.
  • Understanding of the principles of professional journalism.
  • A portfolio with examples of strong breaking news reporting.
  • Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots.
  • Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook.
  • Knowledge of Edius a plus.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines.
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.
  • Develop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interest.
  • Produce news stories that are unique and captivating.
  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms, including social media.
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media to enhance stories.
  • Transmit and present exciting live reports with current technology.
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer.

WNEP-TV, TEGNA’S ABC affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, has an opening for a talented Reporter/Multiskilled Journalist and storyteller to join our top-rated news team.
The MSJ will create compelling content for all WNEP platforms, from TV to digital platforms to social media. The successful candidate should have experience finding, developing, and pitching several quality news stories every day; shooting, writing, and editing assigned stories under deadline pressure; and presenting stories in a captivating and authentic manner.

Pay Range

$20 - $25 USD

TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families. TEGNA offers two medical plan options for full and part-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, as well as access to dental and eye care coverage; fertility, surrogacy and adoption assistance; disability and life insurance.

Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.

Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.

TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
