Skillbridge Training Program Description

Apollo’s SkillBridge Program is designed to equip transitioning service members with the technical skills, field experience, and industry certifications needed to thrive in the data center commissioning sector. Participants will gain hands-on experience working alongside industry professionals on mission-critical projects. Service members will receive mentorship from senior commissioning engineers and may have the opportunity for full-time employment post-transition.

We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated service members from all backgrounds to participate in our Electrical Commissioning Engineer (CxE) training program. During the program, trainees will be immersed in the fundamentals of data center electrical commissioning, working under the guidance of experienced engineers. This hands-on training will expose participants to mission-critical systems, emphasize attention to detail, and develop the ability to perform in high-pressure environments — all essential for a future career in data center operations and commissioning.

Activities will include but are not limited to testing and/or validation of transformers, electrical switchgear, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, Static Transfer Switch (STS) units, Power Distribution Units (PDU), electrical distribution equipment, Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and Building Management and Automation Systems (BMS). This role involves supporting data center construction/commissioning activities, so working hours may include nights and/or weekends.

This is an onsite, client-facing role that may require approximately 90% or more travel to various client locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct commissioning activities for electrical and EPMS/BMS systems in data centers.
  • Create and implement detailed commissioning plans, procedures, and checklists for Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5 systems.
  • Review and evaluate design documents, submittals, and equipment specifications.
  • Conduct site inspections, functional performance tests, and system verifications.
  • Witness testing of all equipment during commissioning and validate sequence of operations.
  • Work closely with project teams, including contractors, engineers, and data center operators, to maintain schedule.
  • Diagnose and resolve system performance, reliability, and safety issues.
  • Document results/findings and generate comprehensive commissioning reports.
  • Maintain open and current communication with the client about the status of the project.
  • Provide training and support to data center staff on system operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Attend project meetings and offer technical expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

The following physical demands must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions:

  • Frequently manipulating, moving, or grasping small parts, devices, or tools.
  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position.
  • Frequently moving through office areas, critical facilities and other environments, including tight and confined spaces.
  • Exposure to low/high temperatures and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
  • Working and walking on different types of terrain on active construction sites (e.g., concrete flooring, gravel, unpaved roads).
  • Frequently ascending and descending stairs and ladders to access equipment.
  • Occasionally positioning oneself under or over equipment.
  • Occasionally moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Active duty service member eligible to participate in the DoD SkillBridge program.
  • Hands-on experience working with electrical systems in a military, industrial, or mission-critical environment (e.g., base facilities, ships, aircraft, or field operations).
  • Foundational understanding of electrical distribution systems, power generation, UPS systems, or control systems — either through direct work experience or formal technical training.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to solve complex problems under pressure.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, maintenance manuals, or construction schematics.
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment and safe work practices.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills; able to collaborate with cross-functional civilian teams and clients.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications (MS Office); experience with Procore, CxAlloy, or other commissioning platforms is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites across the U.S.

Prerequisites for Training Program

  • Successful background check, including pre-employment drug screening
  • US citizens, permanent residents or any candidate with eligibility to work in the US
