WGAL News 8 in Harrisburg, PA is seeking a dynamic Reporter to own coverage of Dauphin and Cumberland counties, delivering political, economic, and cultural stories that matter to the Susquehanna Valley. Based in the Harrisburg newsroom, you will develop exclusive sources, explore government, major employers, education, and public safety, and report across TV, digital, streaming, and social platforms.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of reporting experience preferred.
• Proven ability to enterprise stories and cultivate meaningful community sources.
• Strong live reporting, writing, and storytelling skills.
• Expert grasp of social media and multiplatform storytelling skills.
• Demonstrated ability to break news and thrive in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as WGAL's primary general assignment reporter for Dauphin and Cumberland counties, developing expertise on the region.
• Build and maintain a strong network of community leaders and sources to generate exclusive stories.
• Identify stories before they become headlines and produce original journalism.
• Work with photographers to create visually compelling storytelling for all platforms.
• Produce engaging live shots and vertical videos with context.
• Write for broadcast with conversational storytelling and engaging teases.
• Publish stories, video, and updates to WGAL.com and social media.
• Coordinate with managers to develop in-depth contextual reporting.
• Balance multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Occasionally operate MMJ camera equipment and edit with Adobe Premiere.
• Maintain high standards of journalistic ethics, fairness, and accuracy.
