Location: Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers fellowships to highly talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects. The fellow will work at JPL on Earth science projects related to ground deformation and volcanic activity.

Responsibilities

The main tasks of this project are:

  • Analyze multi‑platform InSAR data (COSMO‑SkyMED, Sentinel, ALOS‑2) to measure ground deformation at large‑scale silicic systems.
  • Run multiphysics numerical simulations that account for complex rheologies, thermodynamic properties of the magmas, and non‑linear mass fluxes to discriminate among several unrest mechanisms.
  • Invert time series data that shows cyclic and time‑dependent signals to constrain properties such as the geometry of the plumbing system, pressure, and flux variations at depth. The models will be benchmarked against well‑studied systems such as Long Valley and Yellowstone.
Qualifications & Eligibility
  • Doctoral Degree in a relevant field.
  • U.S. Citizenship, U.S. lawful permanent residency, eligible Exchange Visitor J‑1 visa status, or LPR, asylee, or refugee in the U.S. with a valid EAD card or pending I‑485/I‑589.
