Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Multi-Modalilty Technologist to perform imaging procedures across modalities under supervision by the modality supervisory technologist and modality medical director.

The role includes meeting technical competency, maintaining strong staff relationships, and participating in education and quality initiatives to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient department operations.

Job description

A Multi-Modalilty Technologist will perform imaging procedures while adhering to established guidelines and assisting in the training of new technologists; will work under the supervision of the modality supervisory technologist and modality medical director. Technologist will: - Perform all technical procedures within the respective modality sections as described in the Radiology Policy Manual. - Meet the technical competency requirements for the position. - Maintain an effective working relationship with all staff. - Participate in professional education programs, patient/staff safety initiatives, and quality assurance/ improvement activities. Contributes to the efficient operation of the department, ensuring quality and continuity of patient care including variation of modality assignment to meet the needs of the patient volume.

Job Functions
  • Performs all technical procedures within their respective modality sections as described in the Radiology Policy Manual.

  • Participates in professional education programs, patient/staff safety initiatives, and quality assurance/ improvement activities.
Responsibilities - General
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures and maintain open communication with departmental leadership and other staff regarding patient care delivery, technical operations, equipment utilization, regulatory compliance, and continuing education.
  • Ensures that all patients have a thorough understanding of the procedure to be performed and communicate relevant information in a compassionate and professional manner to patients undergoing procedures.
  • Works with technologists and support staff to coordinate patient flow by monitoring hospital information and scheduling systems.
  • Participates in departmental and institutional quality assurance/improvement programs and adhere to required infection control, environmental care, radiation safety, and general safety procedures to ensure overall patient, staff, and public safety.
  • Monitors and performs required quality control on all imaging instrumentation, survey meters, calibrators, and other devices to ensure appropriate functionality and coordination of required service.
  • Optimally performs all technical procedures associated within respective modalities and assists in imaging procedures as directed by the radiologist as well as perform complicated intravenous and intramuscular injections as required by modality and in accordance with HWPs.
  • Performs routine back-up, transfer, archive and retrieval of imaging studies and maintain all necessary records and reports in a correct, timely, and efficient manner as well as create and evaluate softcopy and hardcopy production as needed.
  • Ensures that all Federal, State, and local regulatory, accreditation, and organizational guidelines are met when performing job functions including during the receipt, administration, storage, disposal, and general management of radiology pharmaceuticals, supplies, and materials.
  • Ensures quality patient care by helping to establish an orderly, clean, caring, and professional environment.
  • Maintains departmental stocks and supplies and assist in managing an appropriate and fiscally responsible supply inventory by adhering to the established materials management program.
  • Ensures that business and patient information (e.g., images, demographics and reports) is properly handled with proper measures dedicated to the maintenance of security and confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
  • For Angiography (Interventional Radiology and OR Hybrid Room), CT, MRI, Radiography Technologists: establishes intravenous access; administers imaging contrast media as directed by departmental policies and procedures and HWPs.
  • For Angiography (OR Hybrid Room), documents relevant procedural information (hemodynamics, inventory usage) and images via the cardiovascular information systems, (C-PACS) imaging system.
  • For Nuclear Medicine Technologists: establishes intravenous access; administers radiopharmaceutical imaging agents as directed by departmental policies and procedures and HWPs.
  • For Angiography (Interventional Radiology and OR Hybrid Room), CT, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Radiography, and Ultrasonography Technologists: applies room/cylinder oxygen via mask/nasal cannula per order.
Responsibilities - Staff (by modality)
  • Angiography Technologist (Interventional Radiology and OR Hybrid Room): will perform radiographic procedures; will work under the supervision of the modality supervisory technologist and modality medical director.
  • CT Technologist: will perform computed tomography procedures while adhering to established guidelines and assisting in the training of new technologists; will work under the supervision of the modality supervisory technologist and modality medical director.
  • Mammography Technologist: will perform screening and diagnostic mammographic procedures as well as bone densitometry and may also encompass the responsibilities of a Radiography Technologist; will work under the supervision of the modality supervisory technologist and modality medical director.
  • MRI Technologist: will perform procedures magnetic resonance imaging procedures; will work under the supervision of the modality supervisory technologist and modality medical director.
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist: will perform nuclear medicine procedures; will work under the supervision of the modality supervisory technologist and modality medical director.
  • Radiography Technologist: will perform radiographic procedures; will work under the supervision of the modality supervisory technologist and modality medical director.
  • Ultrasonography Technologist: will perform ultrasonography procedures including abdominal, gynecological, O/B, and vascular exams; will work under the supervision of the modality supervisory technologist and modality medical director.

Required Qualifications
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Qualifications as described by modality below. Note: a Multi‑Modality Technologist must work as needed in two (2) or more of the modalities below:
    • Radiography Technologist: Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography (Full/General) license; and Current ARRT registered certification in Radiography with RT(R) designation. For recent radiologic technology graduate only: ARRT registered certification eligibility in Radiography with RT(R); must obtain registered certification within 12 months of hire and prior to the expiration of a temporary Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography (Full/General) license.
    • Computed Tomography Technologist: Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography (Full/General) license, and/or Nuclear Medicine license, and/or Radiation Therapy license; and Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography Computed Tomography license; and Current ARRT registered certification in Radiography with RT(R) designation and Computed Tomography with RT(CT) designation; and/or Current NMTCB registered certification in Nuclear Medicine with CNMT designation.
    • Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist: Current ARRT registered certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging with RT(MR) designation; and Preferred additional registered current ARRT registered certification in Radiography with RT(R) designation; and Preferred additional current Massachusetts DPH Radiologist Technologist Radiography (Full/General) license.
    • Mammography Technologist: Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography (Full/General) license and Mammography license; and Current ARRT registered certification in Radiography with RT(R) designation and Mammography with RT(M) designation.
    • Angiography (Interventional Radiology) Technologist: Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography (Full/General) license; and Current ARRT registered certification in Radiography with RT(R) designation; and Preferred additional current ARRT registered certification in Vascular‑Interventional radiography with RT(VI) designation and/or preferred additional current Cardiac‑Interventional radiography with RT(CI) designation and/or preferred additional current Cardio‑Vascular interventional radiography with RT(CV) designation; and Current ACLS certification with American Heart Association obtained within 6 months of hire.
    • Angiography (OR Hybrid Room) Technologist: Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography (Full/General) license; and Current ARRT registered certification in Radiography with RT(R) designation; and Preferred additional current ARRT registered certification in Vascular‑Interventional radiography with RT(VI) designation and/or preferred additional current Cardiac‑Interventional radiography with RT(CI) designation and/or preferred additional current Cardio‑Vascular interventional radiography with RT(CV) designation; and Current ACLS certification with American Heart Association obtained within 6 months of hire.
    • Nuclear Medicine Technologist: Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Nuclear Medicine license; and Current ARRT registered certification in Nuclear Medicine with RT(N) designation; and/or Current NMTCB registered certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology with CNMT designation. For technologists performing SPECT‑CT Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Nuclear Medicine license SPECT‑CT endorsement and/or current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Nuclear Medicine license CT endorsement and/or current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography (Full/General) license.
    • Ultrasound Technologist: Current ARDMS registered certification in Abdomen with RDMS(AB) designation and/or current ARDMS registered certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology with RDMS(OB/GYN) designation and/or current ARRT registered certification in Sonography with RT(S) designation.
      • For technologists performing nuchal translucency sonography: Current NTQR or equivalent Nuchal Translucency registered certification within 18 months of hire*
      • For technologists performing vascular sonography: Current ARDMS registered certification in Vascular Technology with RVT designation and/or additional current CCI
