Nexstar Media Group, Inc. seeks a Multimedia Journalist Reporter to produce and present news content across platforms. You will shoot, write, voice, edit and feed stories, coordinating interviews and ensuring accuracy and editorial standards.

The role requires a bachelor’s in broadcast journalism or related experience, fluent English and the ability to meet tight deadlines while working a flexible shift onsite in Huntington, WV.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field (or equivalent combination).
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent oral and written communication; ability to ad lib when required.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting (depends on market size).
  • Superior on-air presence.
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment and software.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Reports news stories for broadcast, describing background and details.
  • Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories.
  • Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar and punctuation.
  • Reviews notes to isolate pertinent facts and details.
  • Determines story emphasis, length and format; organizes material accordingly.
  • Researches background information related to news stories.
  • Gathers information through research, interviews, or events.
  • Pitches stories to news managers and producers.
  • Receives assignments and evaluates leads to develop story ideas.
  • Checks reference materials to obtain relevant facts.
  • Revises work to meet editorial approval or time requirements.
  • Shoots and edits news events and reports.
  • Produces and presents reports for all platforms.
  • Ensures content meets company standards for journalistic integrity.
  • Writes stories for the web and eMedia platforms.
  • Interacts with viewers on social media.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Multimedia Journalist Reporter produces, reports, shoots, writes, voices, edits and feeds news production content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers.

  1. Reports news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events
  2. Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories
  3. Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
  4. Reviews and evaluates notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and details
  5. Determines a story’s emphasis, length and format, and organizes material accordingly
  6. Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
  7. Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
  8. Pitches stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community
  9. Receives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas
  10. Discusses issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions
  11. Checks reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts
  12. Revises work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements
  13. Shoots and edits news events and news reports
  14. Produces and presents reports for all platforms
  15. Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
  16. Writes stories for the web and other eMedia platforms
  17. Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites
  18. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
  • Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting (Depending on market size)
  • Superior on-air presence
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Flexibility to work any shift
