Job description

About the Role

We are seeking an Instruments & Electronics Multi-Craft Technician to be a part of the maintenance team based in Concord. This is a night shift position typically working from 7pm – 7am on a 2-2-3 schedule. The candidate will train on a day shift (7am – 7pm) for 3-6 months upon starting. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repairing complex equipment breakdowns involving mechanical and electrical aspects, analyzing failures, and suggesting improvements while ensuring compliance with safety policies.

Reporting Relationships

The position directly reports to the I&E Supervisor and does not supervise others, but is expected to lead and guide others on repairs or projects and to help train lower‑level technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow department guidelines and Standard Operating Procedure work instructions for equipment repair of plastic film processing equipment, including extrusion line cleanings and preventative maintenance.
• Properly complete and submit all paperwork associated with equipment maintenance and safety protocols.
• Perform electrical calibrations and preventative maintenance.
• Diagnose and repair electrical power systems, motor drives, control systems, and instruments used in the systems.
• Use test equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, megohmmeters, and oscilloscopes safely and effectively.
• Perform minor modifications to equipment to eliminate the root cause of mechanical or electrical problems.
• Support manufacturing processes by diagnosing and repairing industrial equipment (electrical, mechanical, motors, pumps, hydraulic systems, and compressors).
• Assist in diagnosing process‑related problems through teamwork with Engineering & Operations staff.
• Complete preventative maintenance tasks for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Read, interpret, and analyze electrical/mechanical schematics, block diagrams, and flow charts.
• Possess basic knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, brakes, clutches, couplings, bearings, belts, chains, gears, and sprockets.
• Disassemble, clean, and reassemble production equipment.
• Verify correct instrument installation and support new equipment installations with point‑to‑point verification prior to startup.
• Update electrical drawings and procedures when needed.
• Plan safety into projects and tasks, and maintain knowledge of HAZMAT, MSDS, EPA, and OSHA requirements.
• Manage multiple projects efficiently and keep detailed written reports.
• Train other maintenance personnel on electrical systems and personal areas of expertise.
• Operate PIV equipment (forklifts, portable hoist, cherry picker, one‑man lift, etc.) and may need to work at heights up to 30 feet, lift and carry up to 30 lbs., and climb ladders.
• Use computer to update electrical procedures and Microsoft Office applications.
• Perform other duties as assigned and contribute to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Associate degree or certificate in Electrical Technology highly preferred. Consideration for related field or relevant military experience.
• Experience: 8+ years of instrumentation & electrical maintenance in a manufacturing environment; 5‑8 years preferred. Formal industrial maintenance training required.
• Technical Skills: Ability to perform diagnostics and setup of PLC & AC inverter drives; experience with Allen Bradley RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, and Powerflex drives preferred.
• Electrical: Troubleshoot AC/DC systems, read/comprehend schematics, and use test equipment.
• Mechanical/Pneumatic/Hydraulic: Basic troubleshooting of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, including brakes, clutches, couplings, bearings, belts, chains, gears, sprockets, and pumps.
• Licenses: Must obtain PIV license; experience with PIV equipment (forklifts, portable hoist, cherry picker, one‑man lift, etc.) required.
• Skills: Read and comprehend basic English, perform basic math, self‑motivated, good interpersonal and communication skills, work effectively with computers and MS Office.
• Physical Capability: Work at heights up to 30 feet, lift up to 30 lbs., climb ladders, bend and twist to reach remote equipment, work in confined spaces, and potentially use infrared or ultrasonic predictive techniques.
• Safety: Knowledge of company safety, OSHA and department procedures, including Lock Out Tag Out.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Socketed in a manufacturing plant setting with around chemicals.
• Standing and walking up to 80% of the time; suitable lighting and temperature.
• May be required to lift up to 30 pounds and/or exert necessary force to move objects.
• Work during night shift with potential shift swaps.
