Job summary

Tampa Port Authority is seeking an entry-level maintenance worker to join our team and support across port facilities. You will assist with trades tasks, events setup, and routine inspections, while learning a broad range of maintenance skills.

You will perform property maintenance, support with repairs on heavy equipment and port infrastructure, and participate in safety-related activities. This role requires flexibility with shifts and outdoor work in a subtropical climate.

Qualifications

• Completion of the tenth grade or higher.
• 1+ years of experience in two or more skilled trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting).
• Must pass seaport security background check and obtain TWIC credential.

Responsibilities

• Set up and breakdown for events at port facilities and assist with trade tasks.
• Perform maintenance on port buildings and infrastructure; assist with heavy equipment, bridges, HVAC, electrical, plumbing.
• Assist with planning, material procurement, and safety-related needs for preventive maintenance.
• Support construction, repairs, and road/ditch work across port properties.

Description:

Salary Range: $35, 000.00 - $68,950.00

Scope & Purpose:

This entry-level position provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced trades workers while learning new techniques and developing a broad range of maintenance and construction skills. The position supports maintenance operations across Port facilities and assists with a variety of trade-related tasks.

Essential Functions & Duties:

• Performs diverse tasks including but not limited to set up and breakdown for events at designated facilities; moving furniture; assembling cubicles; performing routine inspections or inventories. These tasks may require occasionally adjusted schedules such as nights, weekends, holidays.
• Performs a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, setup and breakdown for events at designated facilities, moving furniture, assembling cubicles, and conducting routine inspections or inventories. Work schedules may occasionally include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Perform property maintenance like tree trimming, fence repairs, painting, small roof repairs and pressure washing.
• Assist with complex repairs, maintenance and new construction on port buildings, port tenant buildings and any other infrastructure.
• Assist with installations, preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, passenger bridges, water and sewer systems(plumbing), fire pumps, generators, fire protection, electrical systems, HVAC systems, etc.
• Assist with job planning, procurement of materials for preventive maintenance, new projects and/or any safety-related needs.
• Assist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, ditches, culverts, and associated structures.
• In the event of an emergency or disaster, it will be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities.
• Respond promptly during emergencies or disaster situations as required.
• Utilize a computerized maintenance management system to maintain daily records and logs of operating conditions and mechanical equipment repairs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in construction trades.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and safety equipment.
• Basic knowledge in two or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting
• Ability and willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, scaffolding, towers and lift buckets up to considerable height.
• Ability to operate motor vehicles, willingness to be trained in how to operate and maintain passenger loading bridges, willingness to learn and operate diesel, gas or electric equipment including boats.
• Ability to work in a subtropical climate under adverse weather conditions, high noise levels and around hazardous environment.
• Ability to work effectively with others and be able to follow oral and written instructions.

Requirements:

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:

• Completion of the tenth grade; and
• One or more years of experience as a skilled trades worker in two or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting, or other skilled trades.
• Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies listed above.

Special Requirements:

• Incumbent must possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator's License or capable of obtaining one within thirty days from the date of hire.
• Must successfully pass a seaport security background check and compliance for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

Physical Requirements:

Moderate Occasionally lifts and carry up to 50 pounds.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and/or overnight travel will be expected.

Work is performed primarily outdoors though the employee will be required to into office to oversee projects. Employee will also be exposed to noise and vibration.

Vision and Hearing:

Must be able to clearly see the computer monitor, and road (while driving) with or without corrected vision. Must be able to judge or distinguish distance and space relationships. Must be able to hear within a normal range with or without a hearing device.
