Job summary

Housing Authority of Joliet is seeking a Maintenance Technician to assist with interior/exterior repairs, cleaning and grounds maintenance across HAJ properties in Joliet, IL. You will inspect properties, perform repairs and operate multiple tools and equipment as part of routine upkeep.

The role requires reading and applying instructions, basic math for construction tasks, and a valid Illinois driver’s license, with an emphasis on safety and reliability in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent or trade school certification and three years’ experience in general building maintenance
• Proficiency in general mathematics to complete construction calculations
• Ability to pass with a score of 80% or better a Housing Authority of Joliet or other maintenance related certification exam/test
• Ability to comprehend, read and speak the English language
• Maintain a neat, clean, well-groomed appearance
• Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check

Responsibilities

• Walks/inspects properties at regular intervals to determine needed repairs
• Maintains interior and exterior areas including cleaning, dusting, mopping and grounds upkeep
• Empties trash from common areas and grounds; manages trash room cleanups
• Performs electrical, plumbing and heating repairs; basic carpentry and painting
• Operates equipment safely (mowers, snow blowers, vacuums, etc.)
• Responds to off-shift or emergency maintenance calls as needed
• Assists with preparing vacated units and completing work orders
